  • Patent number: 5136243
Abstract: Antenna means are provided for mapping a static magnetic field comprising an array of impedence matched untuned antenna elements with linear dimensions greater than several wavelengths of radio frequency used for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) or electron spin resonance (ESR). The antenna elements comprise one or more electrical conductors housed within and electrically insulated from a solid shield surrounding the conductor(s). The solid shield contains a void volume filled with a sample adapted for use in NMR or ESR.

Date of Patent: August 4, 1992
    Assignee: Resonance Research, Inc.
Inventors: Piotr M. Starewicz, David F. Hillenbrand
  • Patent number: 4949043
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for rendering uniform a static magnetic field which includes a plurality of radial and axial coils connected to a controlled power supply. This apparatus permits control of at least the first six orders of gradient of the static magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4949044
Abstract: Apparatus for mapping a static magnetic field is provided. A liquid sample is positioned in a magnetic field probe adapted to generate an alternating magnetic field and for measuring an induced signal from the sample as a result of being exposed to the alternating magnetic field. The induced signal from the sample is measured at discrete points along a helical path located within the static magnetic field. Axial and radial shim coils can be positioned within the static magnetic field and the current directed to the coils can be controlled as a result of the field mapping results in order to homogenize the static magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4862087
Abstract: Apparatus such as high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus is provided which includes a large volume having a homogeneous static magnetic field generated by a solenoid magnet within which a plurality of stationary samples can be analyzed concomitantly. The static magnetic field is rendered homogeneous by means of a plurality of radial and axial coils connected to a controlled power supply.
