  • Publication number: 20160066559
Abstract: The ability to see in the UV spectrum sets deer and animal vision apart from humans. Because of the absence of red cones, the drop off in sensitivity at the long-wavelength end of the spectrum occurs at shorter wavelengths for deer. They are less sensitive in the spectral region that appears orange to humans and are virtually insensitive to deep reds. Deer are much more sensitive than humans to the shorter wavelengths of light. They have been found to have a blue cone with peak sensitivity at 455 nm. 440 nm light is seen as bright blue in the dichromatic eye of the deer. The present invention involves connecting UV lights with a power source associated with the moving device, such as the device's electrical system, in such a manner that the UV lights are active whenever the device is running.

  • Patent number: 5010985
Abstract: A disc assembly for a vehicle disc brake has a rotor with a pair of opposite faces from which are mounted annular braking discs. Each disc is mounted for limited radial movement on a carrier device by fasteners located outside the braking area of the disc; and the disc and the carrier device have complementary radial abutment faces, the carrier device being mounted on the rotor by connectors. The brake torque is transmitted from the discs to the carrier device by the abutment faces and then to the rotor by the connectors. This provides a simple construction which reduces stress on the discs and permits and guides radial expansion of the discs during braking.

  • Patent number: 4928798
Abstract: The present invention provides a disc for a disc brake, the disc comprising two annular members arranged coaxially with respect to each other and joined together by generally radially extending vanes and pillars, which project from a central web located between the annular members. The vanes extend for part of the radial extent of the annular members, and the pillars are located in a region not occupied by the vanes and preferably radially beyond the vanes. Power absorption and noise generation is reduced considerably as a result of the reduced vane overall diameter, as compared to a disc of like diameter with the conventional long radial vanes. However, the desired cooling is maintained due to the surface area presented by the combination of shorter vanes and pillars.

  • Patent number: 4913266
Abstract: The present specification discloses a braking disc for a disc brake. The braking disc comprises an annular disc member with a number of radially inwardly projecting lugs, located coaxially with respect to a central hub member which has a number of radially outwardly projecting lugs, the lugs on the hub member being located between adjacent lugs on the annular disc member. The lugs on said members are interconnected by at least one resilient member which is designed to flex generally radially but not circumferentially. Thus the or each resilient member positively transmits circumferential torque forces but is sufficiently flexible to allow for radial deflection due to thermal expansion of the disc member, without being over-stressed.

  • Patent number: 4776439
Abstract: The present invention relates to a disc brake having a lever-type caliper, suitable for use on railway vehicles. The lever caliper type disc brake comprises a pair of pivotally mounted lever arms with an actuator arranged to act between said lever arms to cause the lever arms to pivot and apply the brake. An adjustable pad positioning device is connected to one lever arm to limit the available pivotal movement for said one lever arm when said actuator is in a brakes released position. The adjustable pad positioning device thus restricts the available movement for said one lever arm when the actuator is in the brakes released position so that the pad carried by said one lever arm is always held at a defined distance from the rotating disc in the brakes released position.
