  • Publication number: 20070082707
Abstract: The subject disclosure pertains to systems and methods for providing an improved user interface for mobile devices. Data and services available through the mobile device can be represented as a set of tiles maintained in a display space. The tiles provide a snapshot of the current state of content available through the mobile device without requiring any interaction by the user. The tiles and display space are customizable and can be dynamically updated to display content to a user. In addition, tiles can provide functionality, including simple tasks to a user without requiring the user to navigate away from the tile display space. Tiles can also provide quick access to start software applications. Tiles can be organized in the display space by the user or the tiles can be automatically grouped based upon associated metadata.

  • Publication number: 20070067272
Abstract: The subject disclosure pertains to systems and methods for providing a user interface for mobile devices. The user interface can include a search function that utilizes user input to search multiple software applications and data sources. Content can be retrieved and presented to a user without requiring the user to navigate to the underlying application or sources supplying the content. The applications or content sources can be local to the mobile device or remotely located, such as an Internet site. One or more types of data can be retrieved and presented to a user based upon the user input. Search results can be displayed and dynamically updated as additional user input is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20070067726
Abstract: The subject disclosure pertains to systems and methods for providing an improved user interface for mobile devices. A user interface can obtain content including data and associated tasks from a set of software applications. Consequently, users can access content from multiple applications without navigating away from the user interface. The system architecture is extensible, providing for the addition of applications and user interfaces without requiring modification of the existing applications or user interfaces. Applications can register data suppliers capable of retrieving data from the underlying data store for the application and task executors capable of acting on the data. A user interface can generate a query requesting a class of data and specifying a context used to filter possible results. The system can determine the appropriate data suppliers, distribute queries and return the assembled results to the user interface.

  • Publication number: 20070008239
Abstract: Various new and non-obvious systems and methods are disclosed for interaction between a primary and a secondary display on a portable electronic device. When an event is received at the electronic device, the secondary screen reflects a portion of information about the event. The primary screen is synchronized with the secondary screen such that when the primary screen is accessed (such as by opening a clamshell lid) it reflects the information shown on the secondary screen, as well as potentially adding more information.

  • Publication number: 20060235605
Abstract: A system and method for providing a location snapshot service and associating a snapshot with location container data. The system includes a snapshot service for detecting the position of the computing device. The position of the computing device is associated with a street address. The street address is an identifier for a location container. The location container may be associated with internal data that is associated with the street address. The location container may also be associated with external network data that is associated with the street address. In this manner, a computing device may optimize the use of position data to increase computing functionality and applications on a computing device.

  • Publication number: 20060230115
Abstract: A system and method for automatically populating appointment fields of an appointment template. A messaging client provides a message having message data associated with one or more fields. A field populator automatically transfers the message data associated with the one or more fields to an appropriate field of an appointment response. Time and place data is automatically transferred from a scheduler to an appropriate field of an appointment response.

  • Publication number: 20060229097
Abstract: A method, computer-readable medium, and a computing device are provided for associating one or more data objects and other information with one or more contacts. In certain embodiments, an association application operates to access, analyze, and associate one or more data objects and other information with one or more contacts. A user may then examine a contact and utilize data objects and other information associated with the particular contact. Thus, a user can think about information as it relates to a contact, rather than the information type or application that the information relates. The user can now go to one location where information is compiled with respect to a specific contact.

  • Publication number: 20060221051
Abstract: A system and method for eyes-free interaction with a computing device through environmental awareness. A smart computing device includes non-environmental impact settings that indicate what type of user impact will be recognized as an input. The smart computing device monitors environmental conditions to distinguish a user impact from an environmental impact. Upon detecting a user impact, a command is generated to perform a function on an application.

  • Publication number: 20060208861
Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for providing actionable communication reminders. For example, an item representing an original communication is displayed and a command to set up a reminder to respond to the original communication is accepted. The reminder is set up and, at a later time, is displayed. An input mechanism that can be actuated to respond to the communication may be provided at the later time. As another example, a suggested time to display the reminder and suggested contact information for responding to the original communication are displayed while setting up a reminder.

  • Publication number: 20060193450
Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for converting incoming and/or outgoing communications to usable and convenient formats. For example, a user selects a desired profile from a group of available profiles, and the selected profile is activated. If a first profile is selected and an incoming communication having a textual component is received while the first profile is active, then the textual component is converting to an audio format and recited. If a second profile is selected and an incoming communication having an audio component is received while the second profile is active, then the audio component is converted to a textual format and displayed.

  • Publication number: 20060195528
Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for notifications of events, such as receipt of messages, and specifically to tools and techniques related to breakthrough notification profile and status. For example, it is determining whether a profile is active and whether a contact associated with an event is identified as having a status related to the profile. If the profile is active, a notification related to the event is issued only if the sender has the status. If the profile is not active, the notification is issued whether or not the sender has the status.

  • Publication number: 20050182798
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system of displaying items that gives the user the ability to easily access recently accessed items. The recent items list includes both incoming and outgoing correspondences that are attempted to be matched to the corresponding contact stored in the device. The user can access the recent contact list and reply using any communication method available. For instance, the user could reply by phone, email, send an instant messenger message, send an SMS message, and the like. The recent items list may also include items such as communications, contacts, folder, files, messages, applications, and the like. A coalesced list of the recently used items is shown so that an item is only shown once in the recent list. Any matched item in the recent list may also be shown in the alphabetical list that appears below the recent list.

  • Publication number: 20050171933
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for finding and accessing a contact quickly and easily by filtering and searching through all of the contacts stored in the device based on user input. The filtered contacts may be readily accessed by various applications that use the contact information. When filtering, an input field appears within which a user may enter numbers and characters that is used in searching the contacts. Any information contained within the contact may be searched. In response to the characters input into the input field, a list of possible contacts is provided to the user. The input characters are highlighted in the list of possible contacts.

  • Publication number: 20050166157
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system of pinning and displaying pinned items. Pinned items are displayed such that they are visually distinguishable and prioritized higher than related non-pinned items. For example, pinned contacts are displayed at the top of the contact list and are visually distinguishable from the other contacts. A special icon is used to show an item that is “pinned.” contact. A pinned item is a copy of a contact. The copy helps a user quickly access the items they most commonly communicate with and use and provides an importance to an item.

  • Publication number: 20050164651
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing a mobile device with a selected subset of global address list (GAL) contacts. The offline GAL contacts stored on the device are in sync with the master corporate GAL. The GAL contacts are automatically selected based on the user's emails or meetings and are not duplicates of the contacts within the user's personal contact list. The GAL contacts are browsed and searched seamlessly with the user's other contacts.
