  • Publication number: 20110296313
Abstract: A method for mapping input from input devices used for controlling a device to appropriate Remote User Interface (RUI) commands to be transmitted to an RUI server for controlling the device is described herein. An intelligent mapping of commands to exchange input button and feature information between an RUI client and the RUI server is utilized. The mapping enables an input device to communicate with the RUI client device using the RUI server where the RUI client device maps commands and other data.

  • Publication number: 20110296030
Abstract: Remote user interface rendering devices are able to adaptively degrade the user experience in a manner that is predictable utilizing the method and system described. Capability groups used are a set of interrelated functionalities that are supported as a whole by the rendering device. If the rendering device does not support any feature in a capability group, the remaining features in the same capability group are automatically disabled for the rendering device. The capability groups are able to be assigned priorities so that higher priority capability groups are evaluated first.

  • Patent number: 6826512
Abstract: In one embodiment, when a problem with a consumer electronic device owned by a user is identified, a diagnostic procedure is provided to control the diagnosis of the potentially faulty consumer electronic device by a testing consumer electronic device. The testing consumer electronic device is a local device owned by the user that is operable to diagnose problems associated with the potentially faulty consumer electronic device. In one embodiment, the testing consumer electronic device and the potentially faulty consumer electronic device are part of a home network enabling their communication during the diagnosis. In another embodiment, the testing consumer electronic device and the potentially faulty consumer electronic device can communicate only during the diagnosis using a special purpose connectivity means. In yet another embodiment, the testing consumer device and the potentially faulty consumer electronic device can communicate using their user interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20020104091
Abstract: A method for interfacing a digital set-top box with a digital television in accordance with Electronics Industries Association standard 775A. According to one embodiment, a multiple program transport stream is received and filtered. The filtering process produces a single program transport stream based on a program selected by a user. The single program transport stream is provided to the digital television over a 1394 bus in accordance with EIA standard 775A. The program association information associated with the single program transport stream is also provided to the digital television. In one embodiment, the invention contains a component performing on-screen display function for user interface information displayed on a DTV.
