    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a shift control mechanism (10) that may be incorporated in a transmission gear housing (11) to operate in conjunction with the input from a manual shift selecting lever (12). The shift control mechanism (10) has a shift selecting shaft (14) mounted within the transmission gear housing (11) for rotation and axial translation in response to selective manipulation of the shift selecting lever (12). A sleeve (31) is supported from the transmission gear housing (11), and an actuating member (20) is secured to the shift selecting shaft (14) for rotation, and axial translation, with the shift selecting shaft (12). A plurality of synchronizer assemblies (28) are also located within the transmission gear housing (11), and the actuating member (20) individually operates the synchronizer assemblies (28) in response to selected manipulation of the shift selecting lever (12).
