  • Patent number: 9201141
Abstract: A radar tracking method and system is disclosed that improves radar resource utilization and increases Doppler resolution. The method includes tracking a primary target and a secondary target by directing a radar transmit signal main lobe at a primary target, the radar transmit signal main lobe having associated radar transmit signal side lobes, and receiving a main lobe radar return signal and side lobe radar return signals. A secondary target proximate to a first side lobe radar transmit signal is identified. Then, the primary target is tracked using the radar transmit signal main lobe and the main lobe radar return signal, and the secondary target is tracked using the first side lobe radar transmit signal proximate the secondary target and an independent side lobe return beam formed to align with the secondary target.

  • Patent number: 8049661
Abstract: An array antenna has elements spaced less than one-half wavelength in order to produce a spatial pattern which has both visible and invisible regions. The elements in their nominal state are weighted so as to define particular sidelobe levels. In the presence of failed elements which might otherwise degrade the sidelobe levels, the element weighting function is compensated so as to preserve the sidelobe levels within the visible region of the antenna pattern by placing most or all of the degradation of the sidelobe levels into the invisible region of the antenna pattern.

  • Patent number: 7375676
Abstract: Pulsed or mutual interference in a pulse radar system is ameliorated by a process that includes a pulse-Doppler filter, some frequency bins of which correlate with clutter. Pulsed interference is identified, and the corresponding column vectors of a pulse-Doppler-filter-equivalent matrix are identified. The row values of the corresponding interference-affected column vectors that correlate with clutter are nulled. The vectors are orthogonalized, and then converted to measurement and correction signal vectors for application to the pulse-Doppler received signals. Vector dot products of the measurement signal vectors with the received signals are calculated, to produce pulsed interference measurements that are nominally free of clutter. The pulsed interference measurements are combined with the correction signals which are then subtracted from the received signals to produce signals that are nominally free of pulsed interference.
