  • Publication number: 20130324971
Abstract: A corporeal catheter comprising a catheter tube having a distal end to which a bolus is connected. The bolus contains a tip section and a tube connector section between which a bolus passage section is disposed. The bolus passage section has a passage therein which communicates through a radial port area with the outside of the generally tubular shaped bolus. The port area includes a port mouth which is elongated between opposed elliptical curved surfaces defining a concave arch. Opposite the concave arch port mouth, under the port is a convex stiffening arch on the bolus and axially aligned with it.

  • Publication number: 20130324916
Abstract: The catheter invention is composed of three basic designs directly associated with gastric aspiration and jejunal feeding of polymeric diets. The first catheter embodies a triple lumen gastric sump that provides for gastric aspiration and air venting, along with deep jejunal feeding. The second design is dual lumen gastric tube that provides for gastric aspiration and deep jejunal feeding, but does not provide for gastric air venting. The third invention is a dual lumen design to replace existing Salem Sumps that provide gastric aspiration and air venting.

  • Publication number: 20110196290
Abstract: An enteral catheter provides access to both the stomach and the deep jejunum for feeding, aspiration and decompression. The catheter includes a triple lumen 16Fr tube that joins to a triple lumen “Y” connector at the proximal end of the tube. The connector serves the three lumens as a source for venting air, for fluid aspiration and for fluid infusion. The catheter includes a gastro/jejunal bolus which provides a large effective recessed port size opening varying from 172 degrees around the circumference of the bolus to a maximum recess circumference of 350 degrees. The gastric aspiration lumen, the jejunal feeding lumen, and the air vent lumen, all connect to the gastro/jejunal or midport connector bolus in the stomach at the distal end of the three lumen tube. The gastric lumen and the air vent lumen both open into the stomach through a common gastric port by the midport bolus. The jejunal lumen in the 16Fr tube communicates with jejunal lumen in the jejunal tube.

  • Publication number: 20110196316
Abstract: A gastric/jejunal catheter comprises three major components, a triple lumen “Y” connector, a transitional “midport” bolus, and a single lumen jejunal tube with a jejunal tip. The midport bolus, in turn, comprises three lumens, a jejunal feeding lumen, a gastric relief lumen and an air lumen. The midport bolus also contains inflow and outflow ports communicating with said lumens. The bolus contains a key reinforcing arc that prevents the kinking, and resultant jejuna lumen occlusion, of the bolus.

  • Patent number: 7988658
Abstract: A blood vessel catheter includes a dual lumen catheter tube and a bolus insert attached to the distal end of the tube. First and second ports are formed between the nose section of the bolus and distal end openings of first and second lumens in the tube. The catheter is fabricated by insert molding a thermoplastic bolus onto the distal end of a thermoplastic tube.

  • Patent number: 7914497
Abstract: A catheter includes a catheter tube, internal and external retention bolsters and a retractable catheter tip. The retractable tip is in the form of a bolus which is extended to axial alignment with the tube for insertion. After insertion with a stylet or the like, removal of the stylet permits the tip to retract automatically and assume a position perpendicular to the axis with minimal protrusion into the corporeal space involved.

  • Patent number: 7419479
Abstract: An enteral feeding catheter (5) that provides access to both the stomach and the jejunum for feeding, aspiration and decompression. The catheter includes a dual lumen “D” tube (30) that joins to an external “Y” connector (25) at the proximal end of the tube. The connector serves both lumens as a source for fluid or aspiration. The gastric lumen (37) and the jejunal lumen (38) of the “D” tube both connect to a transitional connector bolus in the stomach. The gastric lumen of the “D” tube joins with a lumen in the transitional bolus that communicates with a gastric port (27). The gastric port is recessed to the level of its full internal lumen, thereby providing maximum protection against occlusion and maximum area for outflow. The “D” jejunal lumen connects in the bolus with a lumen that transitions from a “D” shape to a full circle shape. The latter provides for the attachment of a smaller, round, single lumen tube that extends into the jejunum.

  • Patent number: 7108674
Abstract: A catheter comprising a dual lumen tube with a bolus at its distal end having a bullet nose. A venous port is formed in one side of the bolus adjacent the bullet nose of the bolus. An arterial port is formed in the bolus circumferentially displaced 180° around the catheter from the venous port. The bolus contains a venous passage which transitions from a smaller two-thirds moon shaped cross-section to a larger circular cross-section. The arterial passage has a crescent-moon shaped cross-section. The bullet nose is not as thick as the tube and is inclined on an angle to the axis of the tube so that a portion of its outer periphery is substantially tangent to a hypothetical cylinder containing the trailing edge of the venous port.

  • Publication number: 20040158229
Abstract: A catheter and stylet assembly in one form of the invention includes a catheter sub-assembly, a primary stylet sub-assembly and a secondary stylet sub-assembly. The dual stylet assembly facilitates individual manipulation of the stylets to vary catheter tube stiffness as the tube is inserted through the patient's nose, stomach and duodenum into the jejunum by a method of the invention. A catheter stylet and guide wire assembly in another form of the invention includes a catheter sub-assembly, a stylet sub-assembly and a guide wire. Guide wire and stylet manipulation faulitates varying catheter tube stiffness to obtain similar results. A section of the catheter tube may be normally coiled, whereby it can be straightened for insertion into the jejunum and then permitted to uncoil in the jejunum where it serves as a peristalsis-aided anchor for the tube tip.

  • Patent number: 6702776
Abstract: A catheter including a catheter tube and a bolus tip, the bolus having a radially extending main side port. In one embodiment the catheter also has second and third side ports axially spaced from said main side port. The second and third side ports are each axially elongated, with an edge which is semi-circular in cross-section. The second side port is displaced 180° from the main side port. The third side port is axially aligned with the main port. The catheter is thickened in a dimple opposite each of the second and third side ports. Another catheter embodiment specifically for hemodialysis includes a dual lumen tube with a bolus at its distal end. A main venous port is formed in one side of the bolus adjacent the bullet nose of the bolus. Variations of this embodiment utilize a bolus with a 13.5 French tube connector section and a 10 French nose section, with the venous port formed in the nose section.
