  • Patent number: 5327610
Abstract: A releasable clamp for the interior of an elongated tube, for use in telescopic tube arrangements and the like. The clamp comprises an outwardly expandable split ring having open ends and sides of cylindrical configuration, the sides of the split ring expanding outwardly to frictionally engage the interior surfaces of the tube when in expanded position, the split ring slidably movable longitudinally within the tube when the sides of the split ring are in unexpanded position. Wedges are provided, co-operating with the open ends of the split ring to bear against the ends of the split ring to force the sides of the split ring outwardly to expand it, tube engaging position. This releasable clamp may be used, for example, in an adjustable length handle for an appliance such as a floor polisher.

  • Patent number: 5245640
Abstract: To inspect the integrity of pressurization holes in nuclear fuel rod final end plugs, quality assurance apparatus includes an adapter providing a test chamber into which an end plug is inserted. Instrument gas is introduced into the test chamber through an inlet port for flow to the atmosphere through the pressurization hole. A mass flow meter measures the gas flow through the pressurization hole to determine if it is capable of supporting requisite pressurization of a nuclear fuel rod when the end plug is assembled thereto.

  • Patent number: 5185124
Abstract: To provide quality assurance inspection of the dimensional characteristics of cells to be incorporated in spacers utilized in nuclear fuel bundles to establish critical spacings between fuel rods, a cell is placed in a fixture dimensioned to gauge the outer dimensions of the cell. A fuel rod-simulating pin is then inserted through the cell to rest on fuel rod-positioning stops formed on the cell. "Go, no go" feeler gauges then check the dimensions of the gaps between the fixture and pin.

  • Patent number: 5020951
Abstract: An improved fastener assembly (10) for securing a rocker arm cover (11) to an engine block (13) is described. In the preferred embodiment, the fastener assembly is comprised of a bolt (15) with an unthreaded shaft (15b) between a head (15a) and a threaded end (15c) along a longitudinal axis of the bolt. The bolt is in a slideable relationship within a cylindrical opening (19a) through a grommet (19) and a secured washer (17). Projections or interference portions (15e) on the unthreaded shaft adjacent to the threaded section and opposite the head, restrict the axial movement of the bolt within the grommet and the washer. While the rocker arm cover is being alilgned on the engine block, the bolt is in an up position with the projecting surfaces adjacent to the washer. Once the rocker arm cover is aligned, the bolt is threadingly mated with a threaded aperture (13a) in the engine block.

  • Patent number: 4665744
Abstract: A combined wind direction indicator and rain gauge is described in which the rain gauge is mounted on a vertically suspended sail at one end of a horizontally disposed elongated member which rotates in a horizontal circle in response to the force of inpinging wind. The rain gauge is so disposed that it is always maintained with its open mouth pointed into the direction of wind and at an angle of such that it coincides with the inclination of disending rainfall. Accuracy in measuring rainfall over a given period of time is thereby enhanced since the amount of rainfall collected will not be influenced by the angle of decent thereof. The device is further characterized by having a weighted head at the end of the elongated member remote from the rain gauge to counter balance the weight of the rain gauge and the sail on which it is mounted.
