    Abstract: A robotic surgical method comprises providing an instrument chassis having a proximal mounting section and a distal mounting section rigidly coupled to the proximal mounting section, an instrument guide assembly movably coupled to the distal mounting section, a pair of proximal actuators coupled to the proximal mounting section, and a linkage system operably interconnecting the proximal actuators and the instrument guide assembly. The method further comprises providing first control signals to one of the proximal actuators to cause the linkage system to move the instrument guide assembly in a first rotational degree of freedom, providing second control signals to the other proximal actuator to cause the linkage system to move the instrument guide assembly in a second rotational degree of freedom, and providing third control signals to the proximal actuators to cause the linkage system to move the instrument guide assembly in a third rotational degree of freedom.

    Abstract: An electronic image capture system for capturing a reduced noise image of a scene includes a detector array and an image processing apparatus. The detector array provides to the image processing apparatus data representing at least one image of a scene detected by the array. The image processing apparatus holds a noise model that characterizes the noise performance of the image capture system. Based on the image data and the noise model the image processing apparatus identifies one or more portions of the scene that are predicted to contribute disproportionately to visible noise in an image formed from said image data. Based on the identified portions of the scene and the noise model, the image processing apparatus determines an exposure pattern for the image capture system that is predicted to produce multiple exposures of the scene that are combinable to produce an image with a minimal predicted noise.

    Abstract: An N-object detector comprises an N-object decision structure incorporating decision sub-structures of N object detectors. Some decision sub-structures have multiple different versions composed of the same classifiers with the classifiers rearranged. Said multiple versions associated with an object detector are arranged in the N-object decision structure so that the order in which the classifiers are evaluated is dependent upon the results of the evaluation of a classifier of another object detector. Each version of the same decision sub-structure produces the same logical behaviour as the other versions. Such an N-object decision structure is generated by generating multiple candidate N-object decision structures and analysing the expected computational cost of these candidates to select one of them.

One such method, among others, comprises receiving input from a user indicating sequentially, in real time, a plurality of regions of the static digital image.
