  • Patent number: 4925051
Abstract: A container lid can be used for open-mouthed containers having a peripheral curl about the rim of the container. This peripheral curl defines a rim receiving cavity which may be snap fit over the rim of the container to attach the lid to the container. The container may thereafter be effectively closed by the lid. This lid may additionally have a well having an upwardly sloped portion and a well portion. The well portion has a raised element therein, which can form openings in the lid. In particular, by applying a downward force to a top surface of the raised element, eye-shaped slits may be formed at frangible areas adjacent the corners of this element. These eye-shaped slits permit contents within the container to be discharged therethrough. For instance, a beverage may be held in the container. After applying a downward force to the raised element to form slits in the container lid, the beverage may be discharged through the slits, passed over the sloped portion and then poured and/or ingested therefrom.

This peripheral curl defines a rim receiving cavity which may be snap fit over the rim of the container to attach the lid to the container. The container may thereafter be effectively closed by the lid. This lid may additionally have a central web portion for providing support for the lid and a drink-through element having a raised element within a well portion of this drink-through element. By applying a downward force to a top surface of the raised element, eye-shaped slits may be formed at frangible areas adjacent the corners of this element. These eye-shaped slits permit contents within the container to be discharged therethrough. For instance, a beverage may be held in the container. After applying a downward force to the raised element to form slits in the container lid, the beverage may be ingested directly through the lid.

  • Patent number: 4284226
Abstract: A two-piece foam plastic cup is made from a rectangular blank and either a bottom disc or expandible plastic foam beads. The rectangular blank is pleated in triangular transverse pleats having their apices adjacent to the top rim or mouth of the finished cup to form a frusto-conical sidewall blank with a lapped side seam portion. This sidewall blank is placed in a heated mold with either foam plastic beads or a bottom disc and the mold is heated to fuse the pleats, fuse the lapped side seam, and expand the bottom material and sidewall material into a fused unitary cup or container structure having a sidewall of uniform thickness but with visible pleats therein, despite its resulting smooth surface.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4252264
Abstract: A two-piece frustoconical container is provided with a scalloped sidewall having a lowermost depressed edge portion opposite to an uppermost edge portion in a scoop configuration engageable with foods in bulk as a scoop. When filled with food product the container will stand alone. A lapped side seam extends from the base to the uppermost edge portion to lend stiffness to the scoop configuration. A parallel vertical strip decor is provided over the major portion of the interior surface of the container and is printed thereon by a method which obviates the need to provide registry of the printing on the front and back surfaces of the strip stock from which each sidewall blank is cut.
