The system 10 comprises a gantry 12 rotatable about a horizontal axis 14 and comprising a radiation source 16 for generating a radiation beam 18 and a detector 24 spaced from the radiation source 16, and a barrier 26 disposed between the patient 22 and the gantry 12. The barrier 26 is provided with an opening 30 adapted to allow a breast 20 passing therethrough to be exposed to the radiation beam 18. In some embodiments, the barrier 26 is provided with an opening 30 adapted to allow both the breast 20 and the tissue leading from the breast to axilla and the muscle tissue of the adjacent chest wall passing therethrough to be exposed to the radiation beam 18.

    Abstract: An integrated bearing assembly is provided, comprising a bearing housing defining an axial cavity in which a shaft is disposed. The shaft is rotatably supported by at least two bearing sets. The axial cavity defines three regions, each having distinct diameters. A pair of first regions defines cavity diameters sufficient to receive the bearing sets. A pair of second regions defines cavity diameters such that a small gap is defined between the inner surface of the cavity and the shaft. The third region cooperates with the shaft to define a cylindrical volume containing a coolant. Wettable coatings are utilized in the cylindrical volume to allow free flow of, and maximum contact with, the coolant. Non-wettable coatings are provided in the second regions to contain the coolant. The second regions also function as bearing spacers, thus simplifying bearing assembly design, assembly, and performance.

    Abstract: An apparatus for tuning and/or matching a RF coil in a NMR probe comprising a first variable capacitor electrically connected to the coil and a first motor capable of coupling to the first variable capacitor. The first motor when coupled to the first capacitor adjusts a capacitance associated with the first capacitor. The first motor is capable of operating in a strong magnetic field and is capable of not disturbing homogeneity of said magnetic field when said motor is not operating. The apparatus may further include a second variable capacitor and a second motor. The first motor is further capable of coupling to the second capacitor for adjusting a capacitance associated with the second capacitor. The second motor moves the first motor between coupling with the first capacitor and coupling with the second capacitor. The mechanism may be employed to manipulate variable inductive loads for tuning and/or matching.
