  • Patent number: 10180084
Abstract: The structural case has an annular body having a central axis and including a plurality of boss sections circumferentially interspaced from one another around the axis by a plurality of arcuate panel sections, each panel section having: two parallel arcuate structural flange members being axially interspaced from one another; a sheet metal wall extending between and interconnecting the two flange members; and at least one rib having an edge welded to the sheet-metal wall.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20170297079
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a recuperator disposed in the exhaust duct of a gas turbine engine includes forming a first leading recess adjacent a leading edge of a first thermally conductive sheet and forming a second leading recess adjacent a leading edge of a second thermally conductive sheet, the first and second thermally conductive sheets forming components of a recuperator plate. The first leading recess of the first thermally conductive sheet is mated with the second leading recess of the second thermally conductive sheet, and then the first and second leading edges are joined thereby forming a recuperator plate. The first and second leading recesses form a trough extending along a leading edge of the recuperator plate in a direction substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the recuperator plate.

  • Patent number: 9359952
Abstract: A heat recuperator includes a plurality of channel walls composed substantially of thermally-conductive material and supported in spaced-apart relation, defining fluid channels and interstices therebetween. The fluid channels receive at least one primary fluid flow and the interstices receive at least one secondary fluid flow so as to effect heat exchange between the two flows. In use, the plurality of channel walls are deformable by pressure differential between the primary and secondary fluid flows. When at least some of the channel walls are in a deformed state, the plurality of channel walls are stabilized through press fit engagement of mutually opposed contact regions formed in adjacent pairs of the channel walls.

  • Patent number: 9074489
Abstract: A connector assembly for variable inlet guide vanes in a compressor case of a gas turbine engine comprises an annular case insert having a plurality of circumferentially distributed open-ended receptacles. The annular case insert is sized so as to be received inside a compressor case, with the plurality of circumferentially distributed open-ended receptacles being in register with holes in the compressor case. Bushings have an outer diameter sized to be received in a respective one of the receptacles of the annular case insert, and an inner diameter adapted to receive a connector portion of a vane. Sets of the bushing and the connector portion of a vane in one of the receptacles forming a rotational joint. A method for installing vanes in a compressor case is also provided.

  • Patent number: 8998574
Abstract: A vane assembly of a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced vanes extending radially between an outer case and an inner case. A spring-tensioned stator restraining strap is provided around the outer case and surrounding outer ends of the respective vanes. The outer ends of the vanes are received in corresponding openings defined in the outer case and project radially outwardly from the outer case. The spring-tensioned strap compresses the respective vanes radially and inwardly in position.
