Patent number: 10728056Abstract: A method of redirecting traffic on a network includes receiving a subscriber request to use a parental control service, assigning to the subscriber's access device an Internet protocol (IP) address from a block of addresses reserved for the service, receiving a transaction, determining that the transaction is from an address in the block, and redirecting the transaction to a parental control device on the network. A network-based parental control system includes an access device for an account that uses a parental control service, a dynamic host configuration protocol server that assigns to the access device an IP address from a block of addresses reserved for the parental control service, a parental control policy device, and a router that receives a transaction from the access device, determines that the transaction is from an address in the block, and redirects the transaction to the parental control policy device.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2016Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: David Harp, Toby Bearden, Jason M. Publication number: 20160315973Abstract: Methods and apparatus to process network communications are disclosed. Example methods include determining, at a first edge router of an access network, if at least one of a source address or a destination address of a network communication is associated with a customer to receive a network-based service and forwarding the network communication from the first edge router to network equipment within the access network for routing to the destination address when the at least one of the source address or the destination address is not associated with the customer who is to receive the network-based service. Further methods include forwarding the network communication from the first edge router to a policy enforcement point within the access network when the at least one of the source address or the destination address is associated with the customer to receive the network-based service.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2016Publication date: October 27, 2016Inventors: David Harp, Toby Bearden, Jason Matthew Godfrey

Patent number: 9191724Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a communications gateway associated with a customer premises, multimedia content from a communications network. The method includes superimposing, via the communications gateway, a heartbeat signal on an alternating current electrical power signal associated with an electrical wiring system of the customer premises. The method includes encoding the multimedia content based on the heartbeat signal to produce encoded multimedia content at the communications gateway. The method also includes wirelessly transmitting the encoded multimedia content from the communications gateway to a device.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2014Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, L.P.Inventors: David Harp, Benjamin Jahner, Sean Ohara

Patent number: 9191624Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes determining, at a set-top box device, positioning data associated with a location of the set-top box device. The computer-implemented method includes determining whether the set-top box device is authorized to receive media content at the location. The computer-implemented method also includes receiving the media content via a wireless transmission from a residential gateway when the set-top box device is authorized to receive the media content at the location.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2009Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, L.P.Inventors: David Harp, Jason Godfrey, Sanjay Macwan

Patent number: 8756339Abstract: Technologies for redirecting traffic associated with a target entity for purposes of lawful intercept are presented herein. According to one aspect, a request to monitor data packets associated with a target entity for purposes of lawful intercept is received. Once the request is received, the target entity is added to a lawful intercept list and assigned a lawful intercept IP address from a range of lawful intercept IP addresses. Each lawful intercept IP address may have a corresponding routing policy for routing data packets associated with the corresponding lawful intercept IP address to a lawful intercept capture system. The data packet is then routed to the lawful intercept capture system based on the routing policy of the lawful intercept IP address. The lawful intercept capture system captures the data packet and forwards the data packet to a next hop network entity associated with the data packet.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2010Date of Patent: June 17, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventor: David Harp

Patent number: 8683509Abstract: A method of managing distribution of multimedia content is disclosed. The method includes receiving multimedia content from a communications network at a communications gateway associated with a customer premises. The communications gateway encodes the multimedia content based on a heartbeat signal that is superimposed on an alternating current (AC) electrical power signal associated with an electrical wiring system of the customer premises. The communications gateway wirelessly transmits the encoded multimedia content.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2009Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: David Harp, Benjamin Jahner, Sean Ohara

Publication number: 20120023562Abstract: Example systems and methods to route network communications for network-based services are disclosed. An example method includes receiving network communications; determining if at least one of a source address or a destination address of the received network communications is associated with a customer to receive a network-based service; forwarding the network communications to a policy enforcement point if the at least one of the source address or the destination address is associated with the customer; determining if the forwarded network communications violates a policy selectively associated with the customer; and forwarding the network communications from the policy enforcement point to the destination address if the network communications is not in violation of the policy.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2010Publication date: January 26, 2012Inventors: David Harp, Toby Bearden, Jason Matthew Godfrey
