  • Publication number: 20020023311
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a recessed hinge that allows a door to open to an angle greater than 90 degrees. The hinge of the present invention is also fully reversible, for use either on the right hand or left. The hinge also provides for simplified horizontal and vertical adjustment. Vertical adjustment of the door as well as door removal may be accomplished without tools.

  • Patent number: 5926811
Abstract: A statistical thesaurus is built dynamically, from the same text collection that is being searched, allowing improved generation of expanded query terms. The thesaurus is dynamic in that thesaurus records are collected, ranked, accessed, and applied dynamically. Thesaurus "records" are actually formed as indexed documents arranged in "collections". The collections are preferably distinguished based on text source (court cases versus news wires versus patents, and so forth). Each record has terms assembled in indexed groups (or segments) which inherently reflect a ranking based on relevance to an initial query. After an initial query is received, the appropriate collection(s) of records may be searched by a conventional search and retrieval engine, the searches inherently returning records ranked by degree of relevance due to the record indexing scheme. A record ranking scheme avoids contamination of relevant records by less relevant records.

  • Patent number: 4345515
Abstract: A linear drive arrangement comprises a prime mover which is capable of rotatably driving a screw threaded rod. A carriage is mounted on the rod and carries a plurality of bristles, for example in the form of a brush, which bristles contact the surface of the screw threaded rod. Rotation of the rod by the prime mover causes the bristles to follow screw thread of the rod to drive the carriage along the rod. The advantage of this is that no clutch mechanism is required as if force is applied to the carriage either to prevent it from moving along the rod or to push it along the rod, the bristles will flex to ride over the screw threaded surface of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4345513
Abstract: A toaster for toasting a slice of bread comprises a casing in which a reciprocable carriage is located and is movable towards and away from an aperture defined by the casing through which aperture a slice of bread when mounted on the carriage can pass. A pair of enclosed electric bar heating elements is disposed within the casing respectively adjacent opposed side edges of the casing defining the aperture. A motor arrangement is provided for the carriage which can thereby be driven from a first position remote from the aperture into a second position at a predetermined speed. In this way a slice of bread mounted on the carriage can be made to pass between the elements to toast both sides of the slice progressively as the slice passes out of the casing through the aperture. The degree of toasting is determined by the speed of movement of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4144538
Abstract: A fabric substrate is passed through an electric field in order to set up a charge on the surface of the substrate and to thereby cause a particulate adhesive material stored in a container over which the substrate passes to be attracted to the surface of the substrate by electrostatic attraction. The coated substrate is subsequently heated to melt the adhesive material so that it agglomerates and adheres permanently to the substrate, thus forming a fusible interlining.

  • Patent number: 4114060
Abstract: An electric motor, particularly for driving a gramophone, a tape recorder or an electric instrument at a low rotational speed whereby an induction effect is utilized to achieve good starting torque and a reluctance effect to give good torque when the motor is locked in and running synchronously. The motor includes a stator assembly with a first plurality of pairs of primary pole pieces each pair constituted by a first metal part for the energization by an in-phase current and a second plurality of pairs of primary pole pieces each pair constituted by a second metal part for energization by an out of phase current. The respective parts also define slots constituting secondary pole pieces.

  • Patent number: 4103661
Abstract: A control circuit for a diesel engine starting system including an air intake heating starting aid and a fuel preheater, includes a first delay circuit for operating the preheater and a second delay circuit for operating an indicator. A selector switch has an off position in which the two delay circuits are not utilized, a first on position in which the first delay circuit is overridden and the indicator carries on after a delay determined only by the second delay circuit, and a second on position in which the first delay circuit operates to switch on the fuel preheater after a delay during which the starting aid device is operating and the second delay circuit turns on the indicator after a further delay.

  • Patent number: 4015136
Abstract: A road vehicle electrical system includes a plurality of switches controlling remote loads. The system makes use of voltage sensitive control devices which are operated in synchronism to connect each switch to its load periodically via a conductor which is common to all the load/switch control circuits. A further common conductor conveys a control voltage signal in the form of a repeated staircase wave form to all the control devices. Analogue signal generators and detectors may also share the common conductor under the control of the same wave form generator.

  • Patent number: 3955175
Abstract: A direction indicator control circuit for a road vehicle has a switch means for operating the direction indicator lamps to indicate a turn, and a pulse generator operated by return movement of the steering wheel following completion of a turn, the pulse generator producing a pulse of fixed length which serves to cancel the switch means. A pair of switches are associated with each turning direction, each pair being successively operated by the turning of the steering wheel in one order during the initiation of a turn, and in the reverse order after the completion of the turn. The pulse generator produces the fixed length pulse only when the switches are actuated in the correct order, thereby eliminating erroneous turn indicator information.

  • Patent number: 3931551
Abstract: A control circuit for a double acting electromagnet has two capacitors connecting opposite ends of the electromagnet to one supply line. The ends of the electromagnet can also be connected to the other supply line by way of a two position contact and a normally open switch. The capacitors control energisation of the electromagnet.
