    Abstract: An electrosurgical pencil comprises a body having air flow passages through the body connectable at one end to a vacuum source and opening at their other ends into a shroud providing an annular opening about the electrode blade of the pencil, the shroud, blade and various passages being configured such that the air flow intake velocity into the shroud is at least approximately twice the diffusion velocity of smoke generated at an incision produced by the blade of the pencil.
