Publication number: 20210360100Abstract: Systems and methods for performing damping analyses on a device are disclosed. The damping analyses may be used by a device in numerous ways. For example, in some embodiments, damping analyses are used to determine whether a device is being worn or held by a user. In some embodiments, damping analyses are used to determine which user of multiple users is wearing a device. In some embodiments, damping analyses are used to determine the body composition of a user who is holding or wearing the device. In some embodiments, damping analyses are used to determine how much force a user is applying to a device via a touch input. In some embodiments, damping analyses are used to determine whether and to what extent a sensor is in contact with a body of a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2021Publication date: November 18, 2021Inventors: David I. Patent number: 10463125Abstract: A method of manufacturing a co-molded housing component for an electronic device is disclosed. A component formed from a ceramic material is placed in a mold. The mold comprises a first section defining a first cavity configured to receive the first component, and a second section defining a second cavity that is in communication with the first cavity when the mold is closed. The second cavity is in the shape of a feature that is to be joined to the ceramic material. A polymer material is injected into the second cavity, thereby forming the feature from the polymer material and bonding the feature to the ceramic material. The polymer material is cured. The first component and the feature together form the housing component for an electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: David I. Patent number: 10207387Abstract: A method for co-finishing surfaces bonds a first structure formed of a first material and having a first surface in an aperture defined in a second structure formed of a second material and having a second surface such that there is an offset between the first surface and the second surface. The first surface and the second surface are co-lapped to reduce the offset. The first surface and second surface are co-polished to further reduce the offset. The first surface and second surfaces may then be flush. Edges of the first surface may be chamfered to mitigate damage during co-lapping and/or co-polishing. Fill material may be positioned in gaps between the first and second structures to mitigate damage during co-lapping and/or co-polishing.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2015Date of Patent: February 19, 2019Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Naoto Matsuyuki, Bin Yi, Dezheng Qu, Jairam Manjunathaiah, Scott M. Patent number: 10156231Abstract: A combination of a chamber wall and the flexible membrane defines a pump chamber in a diaphragm pump. The pump chamber includes one or more internal surfaces that are modified to include a pattern of a pattern of channel surface regions. The channel surface regions provide unobstructed pathways to a respective opening disposed on an internal surface of the chamber wall. For example, as discussed herein, presence of the channel surface regions ensures that the facing of the flexible membrane does not needlessly stick (as a result of residual suction) to an inside surface of the chamber wall during a portion of the pump stroke in which negative pressure is applied to a backing of the flexible membrane. In other words, the channel surface regions distribute relief pressure along the inside surface of the pump chamber wall.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2014Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: Ivenix, Inc.Inventors: Jesse E. Ambrosina, Benjamin G. Powers, Alexander J. Segit, David I. Nazzaro

Patent number: 9911551Abstract: An electronic device has a concealed external electrical connector that may be activated by a pin of a mating connector. When the pin applies a force to an electrically conductive and flexible region of an exterior housing of an electronic device the electrically conductive region deflects inwards coupling to a contact within the electronic device. A bi-directional communications path is then established from the pin of the connector, through the conductive portion of the housing, to the contact and to circuitry within the housing of the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2016Date of Patent: March 6, 2018Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Tyler S.
