Publication number: 20240087451Abstract: The technology relates to detecting and responding to emergency vehicles. This may include using a plurality of microphones to detect a siren noise corresponding to an emergency vehicle and to estimate a bearing of the emergency vehicle. This estimated bearing is compared to map information to identify a portion of roadway on which the emergency vehicle is traveling. In addition, information identifying a set of objects in the vehicle's environment as well as characteristics of those objects is received from a perception system is used to determine whether one of the set of objects corresponds to the emergency vehicle. How to respond to the emergency vehicle is determined based on the estimated bearing and identified road segments and the determination of whether one of the set of objects corresponds to the emergency vehicle. This determined response is then used to control the vehicle in an autonomous driving mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventors: David Harrison Silver, Angus Leigh, Benjamin Ingram, Jennifer Taylor, Vaibhav Nangia

Patent number: 11408554Abstract: A gantry-type positioning device includes first and second cross members. Two linear guides are disposed parallel to each other on a base and support the first and second cross members such that the cross members are movable in a first direction. A Y-carriage has a functional element and is supported on the first cross member such that the Y-carriage and the functional element are movable in a second direction. A position-measuring device is disposed on the second cross member and the Y-carriage such that a position of the Y-carriage relative to the second cross member is detectable. A Z-carriage supports the functional element such that the functional element is movable relative to the Y-carriage in a third direction. A further position-measuring device is disposed on the Y-carriage and the functional element such that a position of the functional element relative to the Y-carriage is detectable.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2018Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: ETEL S.A.Inventors: David Ingram, Laurent Heiniger

Patent number: 10767161Abstract: A hierarchy of endothelial colony forming cells (EPCs) was identified from mammalian cord blood, umbilical vein and aorta. A newly isolated cell named high proliferative potential—endothelial colony forming cell (HPP-ECFC) was isolated and characterized. Single cell assays were developed that test the proliferative and clonogenic potential of endothelial cells derived from cord blood, or from HUVECs and HAECs. EPCs were found to reside in vessel walls. Use of a feeder layer of cells derived from high proliferative potential-endothelial colony forming cells (HPP-ECPCS) from human umbilical cord blood, stimulates growth and survival of repopulating hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. Stimulation of growth and survival was determined by increased numbers of progenitor cells in in vitro cultures and increased levels of human cell engraftment in the NOD/SCID immunodeficient mouse transplant system.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2015Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Indiana University Research and Technology CorporationInventors: Mervin C. Yoder, David A. Ingram

Patent number: 9345704Abstract: Germline mutations in the NF1 tumor suppressor gene cause Von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a common genetic disorder of the nervous system characterized by plexiform neurofibroma development. Using adoptive transfer of hematopoietic cells, we establish that NF1 heterozygosity of bone marrow derived cells in the tumor microenvironment is sufficient to allow neurofibroma progression in the context of Schwann cell nullizygosity. Further, genetic or pharmacologic attenuation of the c-kit signaling pathway in hematopoietic cells greatly diminishes neurofibroma initiation and progression. These studies identify haploinsufficient hematopoietic cells and the c-kit receptor as therapeutic targets for preventing plexiform neurofibromas and implicate mast cells as critical mediators of tumor initiation.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2014Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Indiana University Research and Technology CorporationInventors: D.
