  • Patent number: 7181493
Abstract: A platform independent model for exchanging information among numerous entities in a justice system with diverse system components is implemented in a hub and spoke arrangement. Each spoke includes a software agent that communicates with a system component of an entity of the justice system, translates from a common communication format to a communication format of the system component, and manages the timing of the flow of information to/from the system component. The hub includes an information broker that communicates with each agent in the common communication format, determines what information is needed by which entity, and routes the needed information to/from respective agents for the entities that need the information. The platform independent model includes a plurality of traceable and linked UML models that define the information broker from a business use case model through to a platform independent solution model for implementation on a given solution platform.

  • Patent number: 5597357
Abstract: A self-drilling screw is provided which is suitable for use with both relatively thick metal plates and relatively thin metal sheets. The screw is formed from a blank 1 which includes a shank 2 extending between a head 3 and drilling tip 4. The shank 2, adjacent the head 3, is formed with a frusto-conical enlargement 8. A thread 10, when formed in shank 2, is extended into enlargement 8 so as to create a final part 11 of the thread which, in use of the screw with sheet metal 12, distorts the sheet metal such that it firmly locks onto the enlargement 8. A shallow recess 6 is provided in the underside of head 3 surrounding the frusto-conical enlargement 8.

  • Patent number: 5548703
Abstract: A method, system and program for navigating within any compound graphical object in a graphical user interface presented on a display. The compound graphical object has an arbitrary number of hierarchically ranked levels. First, the system determines whether a command to move within the compound object was issued from a pointing device or from a keyboard device. If issued from a pointing device, a lowest level object in the compound object is found which encompasses a hot spot of a pointer icon controlled by the pointing device. The level to which the lowest level object belongs is made active. If the selection command was issued from a keyboard device, a next object in the compound object is selected, the next object being established by the keyboard user command and other information such as the relative hierarchical and spatial positions of the current and next objects.

  • Patent number: 5013213
Abstract: A machine for denesting stacked packaging baskets receives a stack of nested packaging baskets via a first conveyer belt. The stack of packaging baskets lies on its side. A gripper is reciprocatingly moved along a trajectory toward and away from the stack. During each reciprocating motion of the gripper, the first basket in the stack is gripped and removed by the gripper from the stack. The denested basket is then rotated into an upright position by engaging against a turning rod located above the trajectory of the gripper. The uprighted basket is then deposited on a second conveyer belt for transport to a location where product is added.

  • Patent number: 4781506
Abstract: A self-drilling screw having a head at one end and a forged drilling end configuration at the other. The drilling end configuration comprises a pair of longitudinally extending flutes which are separated by land portions and which extend through a tapered tip end to form two cutting edges. The forging operation is performed in such a way as to promote complete formation of the tip end and that may be achieved by inhibiting material flow away from that tip end or by promoting extrusion of material towards the tip end. The drilling end portion of the screw is of elliptical cross section having a minor axis in the region of 60 to 80% of the major axis, and a fillet is formed in the base of each flute at the tip end portion of the flute. Each fillet has a flat surface arranged generally parallel to the screw axis and angularly relative to the ajacent cutting edge of the tip end.

  • Patent number: 4183085
Abstract: A data processing system is described which issues value documents e.g. tickets or information under the control of output instructions and is designed to prevent a person attempting fraud using an unauthorized program obtaining the value documents or information. The system includes a data processor controlling output units which can issue value documents or information and data storage. The data storage is divided into a secure store containing the output instructions arranged to make tampering difficult and a free storage into which an operator may load a program. Security logic is provided to check that an output instruction has originated in the secure store and to prevent operation of an output unit which receives output instructions from free storage. This makes it difficult for a person attempting fraud to produce value documents or information by loading a program into free storage. The secure storage is preferably a read only store programmed during manufacture.
