Patent number: 8204957Abstract: A method of operating a communication device to facilitate a user to control multiple concurrent communication sessions. In operation, the communication device receives a plurality of incoming communications from a plurality of recipients, in which each recipient corresponds to at least one of the multiple concurrent communication sessions. The communication device further detects a user response from a user interface of the communication device in response to receiving the incoming communications. Next, the communication device correlates the user response with at least one of the received incoming communications or previously received communications corresponding to the recipients. Further, the communication device selects at least one of the plurality of recipients based on the correlation and sends the user response to the selected at least one of the plurality of recipients.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2008Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Motorola Mobility, Inc.Inventors: David J. Patent number: 7227916Abstract: An automatic gain control (AGC) method and circuit (10) within a receiver uses a digital state machine (26) to implement the AGC function. independent from interaction with a host processor (36) and for multiple modulation protocols without duplicating circuitry. Modulation protocol and parameters for any of various gain responses are stored in a register (29). Multiple states, each corresponding to a predetermined range of RF input signal strength, are stored in the register. Each state contains parameters that determine a gain control signal for controlling a variable gain amplifier (16). The states are independent and may be selectively disabled to create asymmetric responses. Within any state, an adaptable number of iterations may be set to implement a different update rate or step size after a predetermined number of closed loop gain change iterations has not resulted in a transition to a state that represents a desired output gain.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2003Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignee: Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.Inventors: Charles R. Patent number: 6324230Abstract: A multimode fast attack automatic gain control (AGC) circuit (100) includes an analog feedback loop and a digital feedback loop. The analog feedback loop is switched into the amplifier stage (102) by a first switch (126) when dynamic control of the gain attenuation is desired. The digital feedback loop is switched into the amplifier stage when attenuation is to be adjusted periodically, such as between sequentially received time slots in a time division multiple access (TDMA) mode of communication.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2000Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: David J. Graham, Dane E. Blackburn, Raul Salvi, Keith Tilley

Patent number: 6288609Abstract: A gain controllable low noise amplifier (LNA) (200) with automatic linearity enhancement utilizes an amplifier stage (203) for amplifying a radio frequency (RF) input signal and a dynamically controllable feedback loop amplifier stage (205) for providing negative feedback to the feedback amplifier. A bias controller (213) is coupled to the dynamically controllable feedback loop amplifier stage (203) for monitoring a receiver automatic gain control (AGC) system (211) and providing a dynamic bias to the feedback loop amplifier stage (205) to improve linearity to the LNA in the presence of strong on-channel and off-channel signal conditions.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2000Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Daniel E. Brueske, David J. Graham

Patent number: 6225848Abstract: A DC offset correction loop (200) utilizes a sign bit generator (204), binary search stage (206), and a digital-to-analog converter (208) in its feedback path to correct for DC offsets at the input of a gain stage (202). When a correction value is obtained, it is applied and held (524) to compensate for the DC offset. When a programming event occurs (534), such as detecting an increase in DC offset beyond a threshold, detecting a significant temperature change, or passage of time, a new DC offset correction cycle is initiated.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2000Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Keith A. Tilley, Raul Salvi, Enrique Ferrer, Atif A. Meraj, David J. Graham

Patent number: 5742899Abstract: A fast attack Automatic Gain Control (AGC) loop (100) having a first feedback loop with selectable responses shapes and a second feedback loop with selectable responses shapes. Response shape selection is based, in part, upon fast pull-down, overshoot recovery, and normal mode loop operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1996Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Dane E. Blackburn, David J. Graham

Patent number: 5724652Abstract: A method for acquiring rapid automatic gain control (AGC) response in a narrow band receiver teaches opening the AGC loop (100), setting the gain control signal (106) amplitude of the AGC amplifier stage (104) to a known value, altering the gain control signal (106) amplitude over time, and monitoring the narrow band receiver for an output signal (112). Upon output signal (112) detection, halting alteration of the gain control signal (106) amplitude, closing the AGC loop (100) and commencing normal operation. A particular facet of this approach suggests detecting the output (112) with a varying gain detector (116,132) after the loop (100) is closed and before normal operations are commenced.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1996Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: David J. Graham, Dane E. Blackburn, Kenneth A. Hansen

Patent number: 4483327Abstract: A machine for relieving stress and anxiety in the absence of any electric field having a transporting device with a supportive surface adapted to carry a human body through a circular movement. A rotary drive mechanism moves the transport device along a circular path. In one embodiment the supportive surface is elongate and carries the human body in the reclining position. In this embodiment the transport device rotates in a vertical plane about a horizontal axis. In another embodiment the transport device is in the form of a chair adapted to carry a sitting human body. In the latter embodiment, the chair rotates in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis. A mechanical linkage is connected to the transport device to maintain the same directional orientation of the supportive surface as the transport device moves along the circular path. A method for relieving stress in a human body using the two forms of the machine is also taught.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1982Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Inventors: David J. Graham, Bruce C. Patent number: 4256095Abstract: Apparatus for treating a human subject in controllable gravitational and electrical fields includes a platform that is adapted to carry the body in a prostrate position. The platform is cyclically and uniformly displaced about a fixed horizontal axis by support means that are rotatably coupled to the platform and driven by a motor through a speed reducer. An AC generator is mounted under the platform and produces a low frequency signal connected across a pair of electrodes located at opposite ends of the platform. As the platform is displaced, the body is subjected to a uniformly varying gravitational field together with a low energy electrical field between the electrodes which produce in the subject a feeling of well-being and relaxation.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1978Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Inventor: David J.
