  • Patent number: 8416688
Abstract: A local area network includes computers and peripherals networked in a high-speed LAN with access to a WAN through a slower connection via a broadband modem. A LAN gateway device manages data traffic between the local computers and peripherals and between the LAN and the WAN. The LAN gateway device provides multiple features, such as wired or wireless links, security, firewall, NAT, DCHP, traffic management, and the like. Traffic management features include an automatic quality of service priority classification scheme. A quality of service module automatically assigns priorities to the data streams based on analysis of the data packets. A configuration access list can be provided with pre-configured priorities for some streams. Initially, all streams are given highest priority and subsequently the priority is automatically adapted to the results of the packet analysis.

  • Patent number: 8402107
Abstract: A system is provided for providing content including one or more interactive components to a wireless device. The system includes a content server configurable to deliver push content to the wireless device, a processor for controlling operation of the server, a communications subsystem for communicating with a communications network, and a memory. The content server includes one or more modules for providing the content to the wireless device, the module(s) being configured to cause the content server to: receive a content file including the content and information about the interactive component(s), the information about each individual interactive component comprising one or more attributes useful in rendering the individual interactive component; process the content file and package the processed content file as a content package for delivery to the wireless device; and send the content package to the wireless device as a push delivery.

Traffic management features include an automatic quality of service priority classification scheme. A quality of service module automatically assigns priorities to the data streams based on analysis of the data packets. Traffic shaping techniques control the LAN gateway upstream output and enable IP fragmentation of TCP packets according to measured upstream channel conditions. The traffic shaping techniques estimate available upstream data rate, available downstream data rate, and the size of datagrams being used on the network link.

  • Patent number: 6922123
Abstract: The present invention involves a magnetic detent action device for switches utilizes the magnetic field interaction of a pair of magnetic members each having a side-by-side multipole magnetic pattern. One magnetic member is fixed relative to a switch body, while the other magnetic member is attached to a switch actuator. The magnetic members have a repeating pattern of north, south, and nonmagnetic portions. The switch body holds the two magnetic members in contact or in closely parallel proximity, and, as the switch actuator is moved, the two magnetic members and their respective magnetic poles move relative to each other creating a switch detent action as the magnetic fields of alike and opposite poles of the two magnetic members pass through each other. The magnetic detent action may be implemented in slide, rotary, or other switches.

  • Patent number: 4357988
Abstract: A dual capacity air-conditioning/heating system including an evaporator, a blower, a compressor and compressor motor, the compressor motor having a two-speed mode of operation. The compressor motor speeds are changed by changing the shunt field current of the motor to achieve a significant reduction of energy consumption in the low-speed mode of operation. The blower motor has a two-speed mode of operation by changing the series armature resistance thereof.
