  • Patent number: 6637623
Abstract: A corrugated shipping container for liquids is described. An outer container is a conventional corrugated box. This preferably has an inner corrugated liner forming corner posts. A liquid impermeable plastic bag having a spout and cap is contained within the outer box. The upper closure flaps of the container may have an opening or tear out portion for access to the spout. The neck of the spout is retained in a fixed position at a desired location at the top of the container by a saddle shaped insert having wing-like side members. The retainer ensures that the spout will be immediately accessible when desired, even though the container may have had severe handling stresses causing considerable bag movement.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 28, 2003
    Assignee: Weyerhaeuser Company

  • Publication number: 20030160092
Abstract: A shipping container for liquids is described. This consists of an outer corrugated paperboard container containing an inner corrugated liner forming corner posts. A flexible or semi-flexible bladder or jug generally conforming in cross section to the inside of the corrugated container contains the liquid. It is desirable for the inner corrugated liner to be bonded to the outer container, especially along the margins of the corner posts. It has been found to be critical that the ratio of the length of the outside face of the outer container to the corner post length should be no greater than about 8:1. This is essential to prevent face bulging, especially when the inner plastic container is filled with a high density material such as a paint. Where the inner plastic container has an upstanding handle or spout it is useful to have filler pieces that bear between the plastic container and upper flaps of the outer corrugated container.

  • Patent number: 6502698
Abstract: A tray-type container 10 is provided that includes a bottom wall 20, longitudinally-extending outer side walls 22, and laterally-extending end walls 24. The outer side walls 22 and the end walls 24 extend upwardly from the bottom wall 20 to form an inner cavity 26. As assembled, the outer side walls 22 include a plurality of spaced-apart stacking tabs 28. A plurality of tray-type containers 10 may be aggregated in a stacked configuration utilizing the stacking tabs 28, and placed upon a shipping pallet or slip sheet, or placed within a shipping container to facilitate shipping by large carriers.

  • Patent number: 6296178
Abstract: A single-piece containerboard blank (10) is provided having hingedly-connected first and second side walls (26), (34) in which the second side wall (26) is smaller in length than the first side wall (34). The second side walls each include an outer abutment edge (42). The first side walls include first and second interior end walls (50), (52). Each second interior end wall (52) includes a hypotenuse panel (62) with an inwardly-oriented edge (66). As assembled, the blank (10) forms a container having opposed multi-ply side panels, opposed end panels, and a bottom panel. The hypotenuse panels (62) are oriented in an upright manner and ultimately positioned so that their inwardly-oriented edges (66) push against the first side wall and preferably also against the abutment edges (42) of the second side wall (34). The hypotenuse panels (62) offer stacking strength and reinforcement to the container.

  • Patent number: 5813184
Abstract: Self-heating roofing construction elements containing a heating element embedded therein. Each construction element has at least one tab extending laterally, the tab enclosing one or more electrical conductors so that one construction element may be connected by snap fit to an adjacent construction element. Preferably, the elements are provided as a kit including a right side end module, one or more center modules, and a left side module. Individual construction elements may be ceramic tiles, wood shake shingles, or asphaltic shingles, preferably reinforced with recycled glass, recycled rubber, or both. Whether one or plural modules, the construction element is controlled by an electrical controller responsive to subfreezing temperatures and to presence of precipitation.

  • Patent number: 4895295
Abstract: A single piece carrier of the wrap around style is comprised of a plurality of hinged walls that can be wrapped about a plurality of articles such as flats of eggs. The carrier is erected by encircling the articles and at the top of the carrier a hand hold is formed by inserting the hand hold portion through a slot in the top wall. A locking flap is located along one side of the overlying top wall which is then inserted into a corresponding slot in the other top wall portion and locked in place. A locking tab is then forced inwardly through an aperture within the locking flap and when the tab is in the interior it serves as a locking abutment member holding the articles securely in place. An additional locking means consisting of inwardly extending flaps serves to prevent product slideout.
