  • Patent number: 4351112
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention a motorized sabre saw for reciprocating an elongated saw blade, or the like, is provided with a saw bar and blade holder or chuck combination wherein an end portion of the saw bar is of generally circular cylindrical configuration having a longitudinally extending groove therein having a first wall spaced apart from a radius of the bar a distance substantially equal to one-half the thickness of the blade to be driven thereby and generally parallel such radius and a second wall generally perpendicular the first wall extending from the first wall across such radius with the first and second walls defining therebetween a generally square shoulder whereby a blade clamped thereagainst will be generally bisected by such radius, together with a clamp block mounted with the saw bar over at least a portion of such groove and having a first generally cylindrical aperture a major portion of which is generally circular and complementary to the end portion of the saw bar and the re

  • Patent number: 4283855
Abstract: A sabre saw is provided with a generally tubular saw bar journalled for linear movement in a journal bushing secured in the top portion of the housing and rotatable therein with means provided so that they rotate together. The journal bushing is provided with a generally annular collar in turn provided with a plurality of generally radial notches and a cantilever leaf spring is mounted to the housing with its distal end adjacent the collar and shaped for selective engagement within the notches. A slide trigger is slidably carried by the housing at a top portion thereof convenient to the operator's thumb control which when slid towards the saw bar depresses the cantilevered leaf spring against the collar and into a selective one of the notches when they are aligned for locking the saw bar against rotation. Rearward movement of the trigger slide is effective to release the cantilevered leaf spring wherein it will pop up out of the notch and permit free rotation of the saw bar.

  • Patent number: 4262420
Abstract: A crosshead for a scotch yoke mechanism is formed from a generally rectangular blank of sheet steel provided with a generally oval, straight sided opening extending generally transversely medially thereof and a pair of generally circular openings centered and spaced apart from each of the oval opening straight sides, the blank being formed, as on a four slide forming machine generally around two generally parallel lines each being generally extensions of the oval opening straight sides to provide top and bottom generally parallel panels defining a closed end guide track having parallel sides and positioning the generally circular openings in the top and bottom panels and in line to be threaded on a generally cylindrical tubular saw bar of a sabre saw, the blank being further formed to tubular configuration of generally rectangular cross-section by two further parallel bends closing the crosshead on a fourth side on the side of the saw bar opposite the guide track opening.

  • Patent number: 4204580
Abstract: A hammer drill having a reversible switch which is forward biased normally to prevent the drill from operating in the hammer mode while the switch is in the reverse position. This is a precaution to prevent damage to the clutch teeth which are designed for ratchet action when the tool is operated in the forward direction, but will lock down in reverse to stall tool or damage the mechanism.
