Publication number: 20130231742Abstract: A foldable intraocular lens for providing vision contains an optic body that includes an optical zone and a peripheral zone entirely surrounding the optical zone. The optic body has an anterior face, a substantially opposing posterior face, an optic edge, and an optical axis. The anterior face comprises a central face, a peripheral face, and a recessed annular face therebetween that is disposed posterior to the peripheral face. The intraocular lens further comprises at least one haptic that is integrally formed with the peripheral zone. The haptic comprises a distal posterior face, a proximal posterior face, and a step edge disposed at a boundary therebetween. The haptic further comprises a side edge disposed between the optic edge and the step edge. The proximal posterior face and the posterior face of the optic body form a continuous surface. An edge corner is formed by the intersection of the continuous surface with the optic edge, the side edge, and the step edge.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2013Publication date: September 5, 2013Applicant: Abbott Medical Optics Inc.Inventors: Jim Deacon, David J. Publication number: 20110152873Abstract: Apparatus and methodology for inserting an intraocular lens (IOL) into an eye. The apparatus includes a cartridge for holding an IOL and a handpiece with a body member for receiving the cartridge, an injector rod that is receivable by the body member, and a drive mechanism that longitudinally oscillates the injector rod in the body member when a rotational force is applied about a longitudinal axis in a single direction. In other words, a constant rotation in a single direction of the drive mechanism causes the injector rod to move distally and proximally in discrete increments, with the distal increments being larger than the proximal increments. Accordingly, the injector rod urges an IOL out of the handpiece in a two-steps-forward, one-step-back manner, thereby minimizing or eliminating the chance of the injector rod engaging with the IOL.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2011Publication date: June 23, 2011Applicant: Abbott Medical Optics Inc.Inventor: David J. Publication number: 20090150805Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism to display exactly which parts of a GUI are being updated by non-blocking or asynchronous interaction with a server. It also allows the user to continue to interact with unaffected portions of the display and therefore can be used to provide a superior user experience. Specifically, the present invention displays a busy or progress indicator at the element level of granularity, indicating that the value of the element is currently undergoing a non-blocking or asynchronous update.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2007Publication date: June 11, 2009Inventors: David J. Patent number: 5632643Abstract: An improved yoke socket for use with separate leads and plugs such as those used with electrocardiogram devices provides detents to guard against accidental disconnection of plugs from the socket. A first surface of the yoke socket bears a row of apertures into which can be inserted connectors born by the individual lead plugs. A groove penetrates a second surface of the yoke socket to expose the inserted connectors. Each connector has a notch that acts in concert with a retaining rod placed within the groove to retain the plug against accidental detaching. The retaining rod comprises a series of expanded or bead-like portions connected by thinner rod portions. The expanded portion is sized to protrude into each aperture from the groove to serve as a detent by interacting with the notch of an inserted connector. The entire retaining rod is backed by a layer of compressed elastomer such as rubber which acts to bias the retaining rod into contact with the connector.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1996Date of Patent: May 27, 1997Assignee: Tronomed, Inc.Inventors: David J. Patent number: 5135489Abstract: A pre-slit injection site (34) includes a housing (40) with a flow path therethrough. A first end (42) of the housing (40) carries a pre-slit septum (52). One form of a blunt cannula (98), usable with the injection site (34), carries a locking member (100). When the pre-slit injection site (34) slidably receives the blunt cannula (98), the locking member (100) latches to the injection site (34) and creates a mechanically coupled unit. Another form of the cannula (280) includes a tube having a tapered distal end region (298) and having elongate discharge slots (294) for reducing contact surface area and for directing the flow laterally out of the cannula. The cannula may also include a rounded lead post (330), an annular barb (394), and axially oriented grooves (268). A blood sampling system utilizing an in-line pre-slit injetion site (492) and a shielded blunt cannula (512).Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1989Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Steven C. Patent number: 4970900Abstract: The present invention provides a modular system for mounting one or more medical devices on an IV pole at a patient's bedside. The system comprises a support plate, and at least one modular interconnection receptacle adapted to be detachably mounted on the support plate and adapted to receive a medical device. In one embodiment, the interconnection receptacle has electrical connection means serving as an electrical conduit between the medical device and a monitor. The means for attaching the medical device to the interconnection receptacle has a greater retention force than the means for attaching the interconnection receptacle to the support plate. Thus, in response to a threshold force on the patient line connected to the medical device, the interconnection receptacle breaks free of the support plate while the medical device remains attached to the interconnection receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1989Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: Baxter International, Inc.Inventors: David J. Shepherd, John P. Hall, Ronald B. Beckman

Patent number: 4827617Abstract: A guide shoe attachment for a clearing saw having a shaft defining a centerline, a transmission connected to the shaft including a hub rotatable in a predetermined blade rotation direction about an axis of rotation angled with respect to the centerline, and a circular blade connected to the hub. The guide shoe attachment has an elongate guide member extending radially outward from the hub generally in the direction of the centerline, parallel to and above the blade, providing a guide edge for guiding the saw. It includes a top plate forming a semicircular guard around for blade with fittings for connecting the attachment to the transmission at a position above the blade and forwardly of the transmission. The guide member includes a skid aligned with the guide edge. The guide edge is offset from a centerline of the clearing saw in the direction of blade rotation so that a tree contacting the guide edge is sawn within a kickback zone at the front of the clearing saw.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1987Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Inventor: David J.
