Patent number: 10974286Abstract: A washing apparatus for a 3D-printed article is provided for the removal of support material from the article. The apparatus includes a glove isolation cabinet with a liquid-discharging nozzle to enable an operator to spray an article with a washing liquid, and a drain. A first filter arrangement receives liquid discharged from the cabinet. The washing liquid drains through the first filter arrangement under the influence of gravity but the first filter arrangement is located in a trough in which washing liquid that has passed through the first filter arrangement accumulates whereby, in use, one or more filters of the first filter arrangement are submerged to ensure filtered-out residue remains submerged in the washing liquid. A pump is provided to pump liquid that has passed through the first filter arrangement through a second filter arrangement adapted to filter out solid material equal to or greater than 5 ?m in size.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2020Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Inventor: David James Dore

Publication number: 20160074911Abstract: A 3D-printed article washing apparatus is provided for removing support material from such articles. The apparatus includes a washing unit and a soaking unit. The soaking unit has a chamber for holding an article to be soaked, a pump for circulating a soaking liquid through the chamber and a heater with a thermostatic control for heating the soaking liquid to a predetermined temperature for circulation through the chamber. The washing unit has a cabinet defining a washing compartment that has at least one liquid-discharging nozzle for spraying an article located therein with a washing liquid. Preferably, the cabinet is also provided with an air blower capable of supplying a jet of heated compressed air.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2014Publication date: March 17, 2016Applicant: QUILL INTERNATIONAL GROUP LIMITEDInventor: David James DORE

Publication number: 20080029614Abstract: A mist-spraying apparatus primarily but not exclusively for use in an enclosed space includes an air-blowing mechanism, a spraying mechanism and a control mechanism. The air-blowing mechanism defines an outlet conduit through which air can be blown and an inlet conduit through which air from within the space can be drawn. The spraying mechanism includes a pump for delivering liquid from a reservoir to an atomizing nozzle for spraying. The atomizing nozzle is located within the outlet conduit so that atomized particles emitted by the atomizing nozzle are entrained in the airstream emitted by the air-blowing mechanism and thereby distributed evenly throughout the space. The control mechanism controls operation and is adapted to commence operation of the air-blowing prior to operation of the atomizing nozzle and to continue operation of the air-blowing after operation of the nozzle has ceased.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2004Publication date: February 7, 2008Applicant: QUILL INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRIES OLCInventor: David James Dore

Patent number: 7074117Abstract: A blasting nozzle for a blasting apparatus includes an inlet for attachment to the outlet hose of the blasting apparatus, an accelerating portion, and an outlet portion through which an accelerated abrasive-laden jet can be ejected. The outlet portion has an interior surface that flares outwards to define a single outlet orifice but that also defines a transverse cross-section profile having at least two lobes between which is at least one splitter element. In use, the abrasive within the jet is directed by the splitter element into one or other of the two lobes within the single egressing jet. The overall effect is such that the abrasive distribution transversely across the jet is much more even than in a conventional blasting nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2005Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Quill International Industries PLCInventor: David James Dore

Patent number: 6896597Abstract: A blasting apparatus includes a pressure vessel adapted to contain a particulate blasting medium and a liquid. The vessel includes an inlet and a bottom outlet. The interior of the vessel communicates via its bottom outlet with an opening in a conduit along which conduit an entraining pressurized gas can be fed from a pressurizing gas source. A pressurizing device is provided to pump liquid from a liquid source into the vessel behind its contents in terms of its contents' outflow from the vessel through the bottom outlet. A valve is provided to control the flow of pressurized gas along the conduit. Immediately upstream of the opening in the conduit is located a venturi so that the velocity of the pressurized gas is increased as it passes over the opening thereby increasing the quantity of particulate blasting medium entrained by the gas.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2002Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Quill International Industries, PLCInventor: David James Dore
