Publication number: 20210382234Abstract: A cutting tool includes a cutting head integrated into a handle. The cutting tool can be used to make a window cut in a cable jacket by sliding the cutting tool along the cable jacket. The cutting tool includes guide surfaces to control the cutting depth into the jacket and to maintain the blade edge at a predetermined depth until the end of the stroke. The cutting tool also may direct a scrap portion of the jacket out of the cutting tool away from the cable. The blade of the cutting head is angled relative to a cable guide channel and is easily replaceable.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2019Publication date: December 9, 2021Applicant: COMMSCOPE TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Norin P. Patent number: 10649165Abstract: A flat drop cable has notches or other structures for enhancing the stripability of the jacket from a core of the flat drop cable. The notches can have an angled configuration with surfaces that converge as the notches extend into the jacket. Inner edges, or rounded valleys, at the bottoms of the notches can be positioned along a tear path that intersects the core of the flat drop cable at an angle relative to a major axis of the flat drop cable. For example, the notches can be offset from a minor axis of the flat drop cable a sufficient distance such that the notches are positioned outside a central boundary region that extends tangent to sides of the core and parallel to a minor axis of the flat drop cable. The shoulders of the notches, where the notches transition to an outer jacket wall, may also include a radius of curvature.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2018Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: CommScope Technologies LLCInventors: Norin Paul Pausan, David John Walker, Kevin Vincent Bate

Publication number: 20190346648Abstract: A cable includes an inner core. In one embodiment, the inner core includes at least one optical fiber, plural flaccid strength members, such as aramid yarns, and at least one rigid strength member, such as one or more GRP rods. A jacket surrounds the inner core. The jacket has an undulating thickness which results in plural projections formed on an outer surface of the jacket, extending along the length of the cable. In a first embodiment, the at least one optical fiber is centrally located within the inner core and surrounded by a buffer tube, which is surrounded by plural GRP rods. In other embodiments, the at least one optical fiber is centrally located within the inner core and located within a channel formed in a single GRP rod or located within a buffer tube, which is placed in the channel formed in the single GRP rod.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2019Publication date: November 14, 2019Inventors: Norin Paul Pausan, David John Walker, Amjed M S Abbas

Publication number: 20190027832Abstract: A method of adjusting the pointing angle of an antenna includes mounting an antenna on a mounting structure with an antenna mount that includes a clamp member fixed to the mounting structure, a first adjustment bracket pivotally attached to the clamp member, and a second adjustment bracket pivotally attached to the first adjustment bracket, the antenna being mounted to the second adjustment bracket. The first and/or second adjustment brackets includes an access hole for receiving a toothed hand tool. One of the clamp member, the first adjustment bracket and the second adjustment bracket includes a toothed section. A toothed hand tool is inserted through the access hole to engage the toothed section; and rotated to pivot the first adjustment bracket relative to the clamp member or the second adjustment bracket relative to the first adjustment bracket. The pivoted bracket is secured to set the azimuth or elevation angle.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2017Publication date: January 24, 2019Inventors: Ian Thomas Renilson, David John Walker, Thomas Cunningham Tulloch

Patent number: 6674945Abstract: An electric conductor incorporates at least one optical fibre and has a central axial element with at least one layer of elements helically stranded about it. At least one of the elements, preferably the central axial one, includes at least one optical fibre which is enclosed in a longitudinally extending welded metal tube (typically stainless steel). A second metal tube of greater thickness and higher conductivity than the welded metal tube and having an unwelded longitudinal seam surrounds the welded tube. The second tube is typically of aluminium and served to increase the diameter of the element so that a greater range of useful conductor sizes can be formed by using it in conjunction with appropriately chosen wire diameters.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2002Date of Patent: January 6, 2004Assignee: CCS Technology, Inc.Inventors: Simon Mark Rowland, David John Walker
