  • Patent number: 6670416
Abstract: In tire tread formulations, blends of rubbers having low and high glass transition temperatures have significant advantages over blends made with rubbers having intermediate glass transition temperatures. However, blends of rubbers having low and high glass transition temperatures exhibit poor processability. This invention deals with improving the processability of tire tread formulations which are made by blending rubbers having both low and high glass transition temperatures that offer ultra low rolling resistance without sacrificing rolling resistance or tread wear characteristics. This invention more specifically discloses a tire tread rubber composition which is comprised of (a) about 60 phr to about 90 phr of a high cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber, wherein the high cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber has a glass transition temperature which is within the range of about −104° C. to about −80° C.

  • Patent number: 6612351
Abstract: A pneumatic rubber tire is provided having inner and outer air retention quasi envelopes which individually substantially envelop the tire air chamber and which are comprised of a first inner quasi envelope as an integral innerliner and a second outer quasi envelope as a combination of sidewalls and tread. Such pneumatic tire is of a relatively conventional open toroidal shape. The innerliner and the sidewall-tread combination are termed as being quasi envelopes in a sense that a rigid rim, onto which the tire is to be mounted and inflated, is used to complete the closure of the tire's air chamber envelope.

  • Patent number: 6561243
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tire with a colored sidewall joined with a plurality of colored grooves in its tread. In particular, the present invention relates to a tire of a black-colored rubber composition having a non-black colored sidewall portion which is integral with a plurality of non-black colored grooves of a tread of lug and groove configuration. For said tread, at least a portion of the visible surface of a plurality of tread grooves, exclusive of the outer surface portion of said carbon black reinforced rubber lugs intended to be ground-contacting, is of a non-black colored, synthetic amorphous silica reinforced rubber composition exclusive of carbon black. For said colored sidewall and plurality of connecting tread groove combination, said tread groove and sidewall may be of the same or different non-black color(s).
