  • Patent number: 9969137
Abstract: Methods include providing a plurality fabric material layers, applying a plastisol layer between each fabric material layer forming plurality fabric material layers thereby creating a belt carcass, pressing the fabric material layers together with the plastisol layer(s) at a pressure of at least 5 psi to produce a preformed fabric carcass while heating the preformed fabric carcass while heating the preformed fabric carcass to a temperature which is within the range of about 360° F. to about 450° F. for a period of at least 6 minutes, disposing a thermoplastic elastomer polyvinyl chloride alloy composition onto the upper and lower surfaces of the fabric carcass, pressing the thermoplastic elastomer polyvinyl chloride alloy composition onto the upper and lower surfaces of the fabric carcass, and splicing opposing distal ends of the belt in a stepped splice configuration. The layers may be devoid of covering strips of lattice fabric disposed adjacent an abutment of any proximally positioned fabric layer.

  • Patent number: 8056584
Abstract: A flexible hose construction with kink, crush, and burst resistance. The hose is constructed of a tubular member and a reinforcement strip at least partially embedded in the tubular member. The reinforcement strip is wound in a helical pattern encircling a central lumen of the tubular body. The material forming the reinforcement strip has a greater initial modulus than the material forming the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 8007917
Abstract: A non-halogenated rubber compound is provided for use in conveyor belts, particularly those used in underground mining. The non-halogenated rubber compound is fire-resistant in accordance with MSHA standards and produces acceptable levels of toxicity and smoke upon burning. Such non-halogenated rubber compound includes a blend of rubbery polymers in combination with aluminum trihydrate, which is a fire retardant, and optionally a phosphate plasticizer, which can provide the rubber compound with a more desirable workability. The blend of rubbery polymers is composed of natural rubber and butadiene rubber, and optionally styrene-butadiene rubber, such blend being present in a total amount of 100 phr. In one embodiment, the aluminum trihydrate is present in an amount of about 30 phr to about 150 phr. In another embodiment, the phosphate plasticizer is present in an amount of about 10 phr to about 60 phr.

  • Patent number: 7901016
Abstract: The present invention is directed generally to track segments for track vehicles and, more specifically, to a track segment having an ethylene propylene diene monomer (EP(D)M) rubber based backer, and a method of making. In one embodiment, the track segment includes an EP(D)M rubber based backer including a rubber compound having 100 phr EP(D)M rubber wherein the diene component is optionally present, a peroxide curing agent, and one or more acrylic and/or methacrylic coagents. The track segment further includes a track pad and a track body. The track pad and backer cooperate with the track body to define the track segment for use in a track for a track vehicle. The EP(D)M rubber based compound provides a desirable balance of low heat build-up under heavy dynamic cyclic compression conditions, and also has a desirable load carrying capability, high heat resistance, and good cut/tear strength in hot climates.

  • Patent number: 6427728
Abstract: A belting (10) reinforced with at least one fabric ply (16). The fabric ply (16) is a composite fabric (26). The fabric (26) has two woven layers (28, 30) and an intermediate third layer of straight warp yarns (34). The woven layers (28, 30) and straight warp yarns (34) are bound together by a plurality of binder yarns (38). Each layer (28, 30, 34) of the fabric (26) contributes substantially 25-40% to the overall strength of the fabric (26). The composite fabric (26) may be used in a multi-ply belting (10) for heavy duty applications; wherein the fabric ply (26) is the center ply (16) and provides approximately 50 to 75% of the overall belting strength. The fabric (26) may also be used as a single reinforcing ply for light duty application belting.
