Publication number: 20240122276Abstract: Aspects herein are directed to an apparel item that promotes thermo-regulation through the use of engineered openings, venting, and/or stand-off structures. In exemplary aspects, 20-45% of the apparel item may comprise the engineered openings. Vents may be positioned on the apparel item in areas that experience high amounts of air flow to help channel air into the apparel item. The stand-off structures may be positioned on an inner-facing surface of the apparel item where they help to create a space between the apparel item and the wearer's body surface in which air can flow and help cool the wearer by promoting evaporative cooling.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2023Publication date: April 18, 2024Inventors: Collin Bailey, Kim D. Patent number: 5637122Abstract: The invention relates to electrostatic separation of coal from toxic and pyritic elements and ash compounds. More particularly this invention relates to separation of coal from refuse material by imparting opposite electrostatic charges to coal and refuse particles, passing them between oppositely charged electrodes and mechanically separating the electrostatically attracted diverging coal and refuse particles. The electrostatic attraction and divergent separation process is maximized by performing the charging and separation functions within a continuously vacuum reduced atmosphere. The use of a vacuum exhaust to continuously remove water and water vapor can prevent charge dissipation of the coal particles through charge transfer to water and water vapor. Additionally, the vacuum reduced atmosphere can prevent impairment of electrostatic influence due to gas turbulence.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Inventor: David K. Brown

Patent number: 5597127Abstract: This invention relates to means for pulverizing coal or other minerals by causing them to impact against rotating elements which are specially contoured to maximize two objectives: 1) improved efficiency in pulverization of the material particles at high production rates; and 2) protection of the rotating elements themselves from wear by contact with the process material. The device is formed with counter-rotating rotors which are inverted with respect to each other. The rotors have specially contoured elements attached to their inner faces in concentric rings. The elements could be any one of four different embodiments or a combination of two or more different elements forming successive rings.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1995Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Inventor: David K. Patent number: 5575824Abstract: The present invention provides for a fuel coal processing system having a centrifugal type coal pulverizer and an electrostatic type coal purifier and an optional fuel coal size classifier all combined into one integral, cooperatively acting fuel coal preparation device in one embodiment, and a centrifugal type coal pulverizer and fuel coal size classifier combined in a second embodiment. The centrifugal type coal pulverizer may be a counter rotating cup and ring assembly for breaking apart the coal particles and impurities. The coal particles and impurities leave the pulverizer in flat, radiating, sheet pattern which passes through the electrostatic purifier or separator. The electrostatic separator has a pair of plates which are oppositely charged and arranged next to the pulverizer. The top plate is negatively charged to attract the positively charged pure coal particles and repel the negatively charged pyritic particles.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Inventors: Charles K. Brown, David K. Brown

Patent number: 5275631Abstract: A fuel coal processing system is provided which consists of a centrifugal type pulverizer, a coal purifier and an optional fuel coal size classifier, all combined into one integral, cooperatively acting, fuel coal preparation device. The pulverizer consists of a pair of opposed multicup concentric ring rotors, mounted on a common axis, counter rotating at relatively high speed, an axially located feed tube through which material is fed into the center of the rotor system and then is thrown tangentially, progressively and outwardly from ring to ring on each of the counter rotating rotors thereby being reduced in size by the repeated high speed impacts and skidding abrasion associated with the process.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Inventors: Charles K. Brown, David K. Brown

Patent number: 5235613Abstract: Disclosed is a frequency mapping system (10) including a data processor (12) and a control word memory (16) to be used with a pseudo-random (PN) number generator (32) and a frequency synthesizer (34). The processor receives an input that specifies those frequencies in a frequency band that are available for communications, associates each specified frequency with a respective control word that designates a carrier frequency to the frequency synthesizer, and stores the control words corresponding to the specified frequencies in the control word memory. Once the control word memory is mapped, the PN generator produces code words that address locations in the control word memory whereby the control words in the addressed locations are sent to the frequency synthesizer.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1992Date of Patent: August 10, 1993Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: David K. Brown, John H. Nitardy, Ken Y. Ogami

Patent number: 5051982Abstract: Methods and apparatus are set forth for quickly making switched virtual connections (SVCs) in a digital circuit switch that integrates voice and data using common switch, control and distribution equipment. SVCs provide concurrent data connection service from one station device, such as a PC, to other station devices over a single line for each station device where the line may also carry voice and terminal data service. A switch control processor remembers connection requests from station devices and acts on opportunities to utilize available bandwidth in an optimal manner. Dynamic connection reconfiguration techniques allow the system to "scavenge" bandwidth unused by voice or terminal data traffic for SVCs thereby providing the largest possible data rate at any given time. Short signalling messages and indexed values are used in order to speed activation time for previously defined connections while resource allocation is performed by the switch control processor to further enhance system operating speed.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1989Date of Patent: September 24, 1991Assignee: Data General CorporationInventors: David K. Brown, Richard L. Christensen

Patent number: 4960965Abstract: A coaxial cable structure for electrical signal transmission at frequencies up to the microwave region. The center conductor may be a conventional metallic conductor and the dielectric material between the center conductor and the outer coaxial shield conductor and the outer coaxial shield conductor may be conventional polyethylene or polytetrafluoroethylene. The outer conductor is formed over the dielectric layer acting as a mandrel by means of emplaced, small diameter carbon fibers stabilized in place by an impregnating resin. Use of a curable resin forms the cable rigidly. A variation employs braided carbon fibers without curable resin.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1988Date of Patent: October 2, 1990Inventors: Daniel W. Redmon, David K. Brown
