  • Patent number: 4635499
Abstract: A brace connected between the arms of a bicycle handlebar includes spaced, longitudinally extending legs formed in a U-shaped cross section having an open interior. The barce is bent inwardly at each end forming end portions of reduced cross section which are each contoured to mount to a handlebar arm by welding or brazing. By providing an open interior along the length of the brace, cleaning or plating solutions applied after welding are drained away so that they cannot later seep out onto the final paint or chrome coating of the handlebar and ruin the finish.

  • Patent number: 4615535
Abstract: A training wheel assembly for children's bicycles includes an elongated bracket having a lower portion adapted to adjustably mount a training wheel, and an upper portion formed with multiple, vertically spaced hexagon-shaped apertures each adapted to receive the rear wheel axle of the bicycle. A brace arm is provided to assist in carrying torque applied to the bracket, and includes a hexagon-shaped projection at one end adapted to releasably lock within the hexagon-shaped apertures of the bracket, and a pair of spaced fingers at the other end adapted to mount to a frame member of the bicycle. The angular position of the brace arm relative to the bracket is adjustable so that the spaced fingers of the brace arm may be positioned to mount over and embracingly engage the rear fork member of varying configurations of forks of bicycles.

  • Patent number: 4601483
Abstract: A single bolt, welded bicycle stem assembly for securing the handlebars to the front fork of a bicycle frame. The stem assembly includes a tubular barrel formed with a top end and side wall, and a sheet metal head section. The head section is formed with a cup-shaped top portion and a bottom portion which are bent in a U-shape so that the top portion overlies the bottom portion to form an annular sleeve therebetween adapted to receive and clamp the bicycle handlebars. The bottom portion is formed with spaced, parallel side sections having outwardly extending edges. The head section is adapted to engage the tubular barrel so that its top portion overlies the top end of the barrel and the outwardly extending edges of the bottom portion abut the side wall of the barrel. The head section is connected to a tubular barrel by vertical welds between the outwardly extending edges of the spaced side sections of the bottom portion of the head section and the side wall of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4537525
Abstract: A bicycle handlebar drop stem is disclosed wherein the step is manufactured from a single piece sheet metal blank. The blank is configured by a series of dies such that it is formed into a cylindrical post having an integral neck section and handlebar receiving head. The neck and head extend downwardly at an acute angle to the cylindrical post. To accommodate this downward angulation of the neck relative to the post, the blank is notched at the interface of the neck and cylindrical post sections of the blank and depending flanges of the configured stem are welded to the cylindrical post.

  • Patent number: 4501435
Abstract: A bicycle handlebar stem assembly for securing the handlebars to the front fork of a bicycle frame. The stem assembly includes a separate tubular barrel and a sheet metal head section which are made in separate operations and connected by welding longitudinally extending edges of the head to opposite sides of the barrel to form the completed stem assembly.
