    Abstract: A silicone release composition having a non-gloss, i.e., matte finished, surface and a linerless label incorporating the silicone release composition. The release composition includes a crosslinked silicone-based polymer having microparticles of a polymeric wax at least partially embedded therein. The polymeric wax may be polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene or other polyolefin, or a hydrocarbon-based wax. The microparticles of polymeric wax cause incidental light to scatter upon reflection, giving the release composition surface matte appearance. This makes the release composition particularly useful for linerless labels on which bar coded information will be printed. Also, a method for producing linerless label stock. The method includes mixing an uncured silicone material with microparticles of a polymeric wax. The mixture is coated onto a substrate and exposed to UV radiation to cure or crosslink the silicone around the microparticles of wax.

    Abstract: Linerless postage stamps are produced by coating a paper substrate on the bottom surface with pressure sensitive adhesive, and coating the substrate on the top surface with release material, such as silicone, which includes an effective amount of stamp cancellation ink retaining particles, so that when the release coat and particles are contacted by stamp cancellation ink the particles will retain sufficient stamp cancellation ink so that the ink is visible on the top face and will not be wiped off during normal handling. The particles may comprise fumed silica, colloidal silica, kaolin clay, aluminum oxide, wollastonite, talc, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, or combinations thereof. Stamp indicia is typically provided on the top of the substrate underneath the release coat.

    Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesive linerless label assemblies having a primer layer and a breakaway layer capable of being separated from each other after the label is applied to a surface, thus leaving a portion of the assembly on the surface and removing the other portion. In one embodiment, the primer layer is an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer and the breakaway layer is polyvinyl acetate. In another embodiment, the primer layer is a polyethylene emulsion and the breakaway layer is a polyurethane emulsion. In a third embodiment, the primer layer is a composition of a UV curable bisphenol A epoxy oligomer, pentaerythritol triacrylate, and a monofunctional styrene monomer, and the breakaway layer is polyvinyl acetate.

    Abstract: A double-scrim belting (10) is described having a first woven scrim (12) and a spaced apart and substantially parallel second woven scrim (14) connected by staple fibers (16) consolidated together through entanglement and integrated with the scrims through entanglement, both entanglements being of the kind typically produced by needling. If desired, a non-woven web of staple fibers is needled to the outer surfaces of the scrims and the thusly formed belting is completely encapsulated in a matrix of elastomeric material (36). To further strengthen the connection between the scrims (12, 14), the scrims are additionally joined together by binder members (42) which extend in a direction of the thickness of the belting. If the belting is intended to be used to convey food grade products, preferably an antibacterial agent is incorporated into the elastomeric material to inhibit bacterial growth.

    Abstract: A linerless pressure sensitive adhesive label comprising a substrate, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer coated onto at least a portion of one side of the substrate, and a continuous protective layer of polyethylene or amide wax substantially overcoating the pressure sensitive adhesive, thereby masking the tackiness of the substrate. Also included is a method of making a linerless pressure sensitive adhesive label comprising the steps of applying a pressure sensitive adhesive to one side of a substrate, and applying a continuous polyethylene or amide wax protective layer substantially over the pressure sensitive adhesive, thereby masking the tackiness of the substrate. Also disclosed is a method of using the linerless pressure sensitive adhesive label comprising the steps of at least partially removing the protective layer to thereby expose the pressure sensitive adhesive and subsequently affixing the label to a surface.
