Patent number: 9328584Abstract: A wellbore ball valve includes a ball-type valve closure having an interior, central bore. A lower ball carrying assembly defines a first annular, sealing seat surface in contact with and adapted to seal with the exterior of the valve closure. The first seat surface defines a first through hole. An upper assembly defines a second annular seat surface in contact with the exterior of the valve closure. The second seat surface defines a second through hole. The second through hole is shaped differently from the first through hole in that it at least partially overlaps with the central bore while the first through hole is sealed from the central bore.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2013Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Frank David Kalb, Andrew John Webber

Patent number: 9206670Abstract: A downhole valve for use in a well has a closure device that is biased closed to seal against flow through the central bore of the valve. A plurality of pistons are each coupled to a respective hydraulic control line into the valve. Each piston is adapted to reside in an actuated position, supporting the closure open, when at least a specified hydraulic pressure is supplied through its control line, and to reside in an unactuated position, not supporting the closure open, when at least the specified hydraulic pressure is not present in its control line. The valve has a chamber containing a hydraulic fluid hydraulically coupling the pistons to support any piston not receiving the specified hydraulic pressure in an unactuated position. In certain aspects, when the piston is in the unactuated position, it seals against communication of fluid with its respective control line using a static-type seal.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2012Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Andrew John Webber, Frank David Kalb

Patent number: 9163480Abstract: A well tool with a housing has an actuator sleeve in the housing. The actuator sleeve has an internal shifting tool engaging profile. An actuator is in the housing. The actuator is responsive to a remote signal to move the actuator sleeve from a first position to a second position. A dog is in the housing, supported to couple the actuator sleeve to the actuator when the actuator sleeve is in the first position and unsupported to allow the actuator sleeve to uncouple from the actuator when the actuator sleeve is in the second position.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2013Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: James Crabb, Frank David Kalb, Andrew John Webber, William James Goodall

Patent number: 9080421Abstract: A flow control assembly can be mechanically adjusted, rotationally or translationally, inside a tubing downhole between multiple positions by an intervening tool from the surface to change resistivity to flow through the flow control assembly. The positions among which the flow control assembly can be adjusted can include a closed position, a fully open position, and positions at which fluid experiences various resistances prior to flowing to an inner area of the tubing.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2012Date of Patent: July 14, 2015Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Luke William Holderman, Jean-Marc Lopez, Brad Richard Pickle, Frank David Kalb

Patent number: 8864331Abstract: An illumination system is provided for illuminating a planter box used to provide lighting for walkways, stairs, decks and the like. Indirect lighting is provided for illuminating the planter box with up-lighting and the supporting surface for the planter box with down-lighting. In a preferred embodiment, each LED is solar powered and provides both indirect up-lighting and indirect down-lighting simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2013Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Inventors: David Kalb, Todd Lyon

Publication number: 20140083708Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for mechanically reclosing a hydraulically actuated sliding side door of a sleeve assembly. One sleeve assembly includes a housing defining one or more flow ports, a sliding sleeve arranged within the housing and movable between a closed position and an open position and back to the closed position, wherein, when in the closed position, the outer sleeve occludes the one or more flow ports, and, when in the open position, the one or more flow ports are exposed. A piston is movably arranged within a piston bore defined in the housing, and a locking mechanism is arranged within the piston bore and configured to engage the piston with the sliding sleeve, thereby allowing the piston to move the sliding sleeve to the open position.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2012Publication date: March 27, 2014Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Adam Evan Beck, Jeffrey Wythe Huggins, Joseph Steven Grieco, Frank David Kalb

Patent number: 8607882Abstract: A ball valve comprises a housing, a first seat surface, a second seat surface, and a ball rotatably movable within the housing. The ball contacts at least one of the first seat surface and the second seat surface to form a seal within the ball valve. The first seat surface and the second seat surface are fixed relative to each other, and pressure acting in a first direction and in a second direction opposite the first direction increases the contact pressure of the first seat surface and the second seat surface with the ball.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2011Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Frank David Kalb, Liam Andrew Aitken, Andrew John Webber
