  • Patent number: 5504199
Abstract: A dye which is either 2-naphthalenol (phenylazo) phenyl azo alkyl derivatives and 1,4-dialkylamino anthraquinone is added to sufficient non-ionic surfactant to compatibilize it with ethanol and an solvent to produce a homogeneous solution. The homogeneous solution is added to ethanol in an amount to provide a desired amount of coloration to the ethanol.

  • Patent number: 5173549
Abstract: An improved process for reacting a mercaptanterminated aliphatic polysulfide resin with excess epichlorohydrin in the presence of alkali to form an expoxidized polysulfide is disclosed. The reaction takes place in the absence of a solvent such as ethyl alcohol or ether, which will form an inseparable azeotrope with epichlorohydrin and water. The reaction is carried out at a temperature and pressure sufficient to distill away epichlorohydrin and by-product water. The water and epichlorohydrin are separated and the epichlorohydrin is returned to the pot during the reaction. After the reaction is complete, the epichlorohydrin is stripped, leaving an epoxidized polysulfide, by-product sodium chloride, and residual alkali. The epoxidized polysulfide is dissolved in a work-up solvent and filtered to remove sodium chloride and alkali. Then the work-up solvent is stripped, leaving a purified product.

  • Patent number: 4283543
Abstract: A process for preparing the compound 5-t-butyl-2-methylamino-1,3,4-thiadiazole, ##STR1## in high yield by the reaction of 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with pivalic acid in a solution containing both polyphosphoric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid, followed by neutralizing the reaction mixture with a neutralizing mixture comprising an organic solvent and an alkaline substance dissolved in water and separating 5-t-butyl-2-methylamino-1,3,4-thiadiazole from the organic phase.
