  • Patent number: 6040371
Abstract: Process for preparing an aqueous dispersion of antimony pentoxide sol useful for flame retardancy consisting of the steps forming an aqueous dispersion of phosphated antimony pentoxide sol; mixing the aqueous dispersion with a water-soluble alkanol amine; and concentrating the dispersion to provide an aqueous dispersion containing at least 50 percent by weight of antimony pentoxide; and aqueous antimony pentoxide sol dispersions prepared thereby.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 19, 1998
Date of Patent: March 21, 2000
    Assignee: Nyacol Products, Inc.
    Inventor: David L. Catone
  • Patent number: 5863967
Abstract: A halogen-containing vinyl resin such as polyvinyl chloride containing a thermal stabilizer and a flame retardant reagent comprising trivalent antimony deposited as a coating on the surface of a colloidal dispersion of antimony pentoxide particles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 12, 1997
Date of Patent: January 26, 1999

  • Patent number: 5182048
Abstract: Disclosed are a novel class of colloidal antimony pentoxide powders having improved dispersibility in polar solvents; and novel processes for preparing same, which processes include the initial step of preparing a new intermediate consisting of an antimony pentoxide/phosphoric acid sol containing at least 35% by weight of antimony pentoxide based upon the total weight of the sol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1991
Date of Patent: January 26, 1993
    Assignee: Nyacol Products Inc.
Inventors: Donald P. Kintz, David L. Catone
  • Patent number: 4578118
Abstract: A substantially white, anhydrous, amorphous aluminosilicate pigment is obtained by calcining a combination of previously uncalcined kaolin clay and an alumina source. The calcination is carried out at a temperature of about 870.degree. C. to 1400.degree. C., preferably about 870.degree. C. to 1260.degree. C., for a suitable period of time, e.g., 0.1 to 3 hours. The pigments obtained by the foregoing method display enhanced brightness greater than the merely additive brightness which would be obtained by mixing alumina with a previously calcined kaolin clay and are otherwise well suited for use as paper-filling or coating pigments.
    Type: Grant
