  • Patent number: 7148187
Abstract: A cleaning composition with a 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid and a nonionic surfactant gives good antimicrobial performance and good filming and streaking performance. The composition can contain a solvent with low water solubility, a volatile solvent that is miscible in water, and additional surfactants. The nonionic surfactant can be food safe. The composition can be impregnated and used on a wipe or other substrate.

    Assignee: The Clorox Company
Inventors: Richard E. Simon, Lily Cheng, David L. DeLeeuw
  • Patent number: 5589448
Abstract: The invention provides a high water liquid enzyme prewash composition essentially free of hydrotropes, solvents and dispersants other than nonionic surfactants, and combines: a) effective amounts of a hydrolase enzyme stabilized with a soluble alkaline earth salt; b) a more hydrophilic, first nonionic surfactant having an HLB of greater than about 11; c) a more hydrophobic, second nonionic surfactant having an HLB of less than or equal to about 11; d) at least 80% or greater water; wherein the difference in HLB between said first and second nonionic surfactants is at least about 2, and said nonionic surfactants interact with said water to form an opalescent, structured liquid, said structured liquid both suspending said hydrolase and protecting said hydrolase against deactivation with said water. Suitable adjuncts, such as mildewstats/bacteristats, fragrances and dyes can be included.

  • Patent number: 5254287
Abstract: The invention relates to a bleaching composition containing an oxidant bleach and enzyme granules, in which enzyme stability is prolonged without undue loss of solubility despite intimate contact of said enzyme granules with said oxidant bleach. In the invention, an oxidant is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal perborates, alkali metal percarbonates, hydrogen peroxide adducts, and mixtures thereof, and combined with an enzyme which is coated substantially completely by a water soluble polymer, in which an additive selected from the group consisting of reducing agents, a transition metal, and mixtures thereof is incorporated to enhance enzyme stability.

Inventors: David L. Deleeuw, Dale S. Steichen, James D. Mitchell
  • Patent number: 5234616
Abstract: Peroxygen bleach compositions which can be used together with oxygen-sensitive wash aids are disclosed. Combination products comprising these bleach compositions together with the oxygen sensitive wash aids are disclosed as well as are methods of laundering employing them. The bleach compositions include a peroxygen source, a surface active or hydrotropic bleach activator or catalyst therefor and a quaternary ammonium salt. As compared to equivalent compositions not containing the quaternary ammonium salt, these bleach compositions are characterized by a delayed onset of active oxygen production when they are added to wash solutions. When these bleach compositions are used in combination with oxygen-sensitive wash aids, the sensitive wash aids have an initial period when they can act before the active oxygen level rises to a level that it interferes with their action.

  • Patent number: 5167854
Abstract: The invention relates to a bleaching composition containing an oxidant bleach and enzyme granules, in which enzyme stability is prolonged without undue loss of solubility despite intimate contact of said enzyme granules and said oxidant bleach, comprising:an oxidant bleach, selected from the group consisting of alkali-metal peroborates, alkali metal percarbonates, hydrogen peroxide adducts, and mixtures thereof and hydrolase enzyme granules comprising a hydrolase enzyme core and a water soluble alkali metal silicate coating substantially encapsulating said core, said coating including at least one protective agent, said agent being selected from the group consisting of transition metals; reducing agents; and mixtures thereof. Sodium percarbonate is a preferred oxidant, while transition metals combined with a sodium silicate coating provide enhanced storage stability to the enzymes thereby coated.
