  • Patent number: 6952868
Abstract: An assembly apparatus for a magnet assembly is disclosed. The assembly apparatus includes first and second assembly nests and an assembly slide operable between an advanced position relative to the assembly nests and a retracted position for assembly. As disclosed the assembly apparatus is used to assemble spacer posts between opposed magnet/backiron assemblies. The assembly apparatus includes spacer nests proximate to the assembly nests for assembly of spacers between the opposed magnet/backiron assemblies.

  • Publication number: 20020101317
Abstract: A magnet assembly including spacers having chamfered posts insertable in post holes of opposed spaced backirons. For assembly, chamfered posts are inserted into post holes on a first backiron. A second backiron is supported above the first backiron by an assembly slide to retain the second backiron against the magnetic attraction between the first and second backirons for preassembly alignment of the post holes relative to spacer posts. The assembly slide is withdrawn from the second backiron so that the second backiron is attracted toward the first backiron and spacer posts are inserted into post holes on the second backiron. A method for assembling a magnet assembly using an assembly slide to support a second backiron above a first backiron and withdrawing the slide from the second backiron to assemble components.

  • Patent number: 6047459
Abstract: A device for assembling a magnet assembly for a voice coil motor for a data storage device. The device including a base, spacer nests and first and second assembly blocks for supporting plates for assembly of the magnet assembly. The first and second assembly blocks including nest bases having an x-y axis and including x-y datum members. The plates are biased toward x-y datum members via clamps operably coupled to the nest base. Retainer members are operably coupled to the assembly blocks and aligned relative to the nest base to retain plate relative to nest base for assembly. The assembly blocks are movably coupled to the base to operate between a retracted position and an advanced assembly position. In the advanced assembly position, the first and second assembly blocks being aligned with the spacer nest supporting spacers for assembling the magnet assembly.

  • Patent number: 5929630
Abstract: A flux sensitive device for creating electrical signals from magnetic flux produced by a magnetic piece has a first member defining a surface for sliding the magnetic piece. A conductive trace and a backiron are located proximate the first member such that the conductive trace is between the first member and the backiron. The position of the conductive loop is fixed relative to the backiron and the first member. The backiron forms a magnetic flux path with the magnetic piece and the conductive trace creates an electrical signal when magnetic flux crosses the conductive trace.
