  • Patent number: 5011682
Abstract: A method and composition for controlling tartar formation in the mouth is reported based upon low molecular weight polymers. These polymers are formed from a mixture of mono- and di- carboxylic vinyl monomers reacted with hypophosphite groups. Particularly effective are phosphorus containing acrylate/maleate polymers of weight averaged molecular weight ranging from about 400 to 5000.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 18, 1990
Date of Patent: April 30, 1991
    Assignee: Conopco, Inc.
Inventors: David L. Elliott, Catherine L. Howie, Peter G. Montague
  • Patent number: 4969925
Abstract: A toilet bar is provided whose components include from 10 to 70% of a soap, from 0.1 to 3% of a cellulosic polymer, and from 0.1 to 3% of a water-soluble carboxylate polymer. The carboxylate polymer is formed from a mixture of monomers comprising a water-soluble carboxylic containing vinyl monomer and a water-insoluble vinyl monomer, the water-insoluble monomer constituting at least 30 mole % of the polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 19, 1989
Date of Patent: November 13, 1990
Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co., division of Conopco, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4954280
Abstract: A stable liquid automatic dishwashing compositions as well as a process for its preparation is disclosed. The composition is an aqueous thixotropic fluid possessing a yield point. The composition may include swellable clays, synthetic polymers, a specified amount of multivalent cations, builder salts, an alkaline source, a hypochlorite source, nonionic or anionic surfactants, and defoamers. The system containing clay, polymer, and ions thickens the composition to provide structure to suspend finely divided solid components, while maintaining good salt tolerance and stability against hypochlorite.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 4, 1990
    Assignee: Lever Brothers Company
Inventors: David L. Elliott, Steven P. Christiano, David J. Lang, Rosemary M. Sisco
  • Patent number: 4867896
Abstract: Liquid or gel-type cleaning compositions are reported containing a water-soluble polymer formed from monomers comprising at least one .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid or salt thereof and one or more cross-linking monomers each having at least two unsaturated groups and which after cross-linking consists of a saturated hydrocarbon or aromatic structure. The polymer must be stable to oxidation by 1% hypochlorite at 25.degree. C. for greater than two weeks without exhibiting any phase separation or greater than 50% viscosity loss from the composition. Besides polymer, the compositions will contain a chlorine bleach agent.
