  • Patent number: 5201881
Abstract: A joint prosthesis provides articulating prosthesis components that can deflect with respect to one another so that shock absorption is provided, lowering impact stresses. The components interface at articulating surfaces, and a gap is provided at a position away from the articulating surfaces, so that one of the components can flex into the gap area during use.

  • Patent number: 5129946
Abstract: A composition for treating timber comprising a boron-containing preservative, a thickening agent and, optionally, a fluorosurfactant. The thickening agent can be at least one polysaccharide, such as xanthan gum, or two or more polyacrylamides. The boron-containing preservative can be in the form of a colloidal micro-crystalline suspension of a boron-containing salt. The composition allows the boron-containing preservative to be more readily absorbed by, and diffused into, the timber.

  • Patent number: 5122133
Abstract: A compression bone screw apparatus includes an elongated cylindrical shaft member with a first smaller diameter portion that is of generally uniform cylindrical configuration, and a second enlarged diameter annular proximate end portion. An internal bore extends longitudinally along the length of the shaft member, being open ended so that a driver tool can extend through the elongated cylindrical shaft member during installation of the compression bone screw apparatus. A generally cylindrical lag screw member is slidably mounted in telescoping fashion upon the shaft member and at a position spaced from the annular proximate end portion thereof. Splines prevent rotation of the shaft with respect to the lag as the lag slides upon the shaft to increase the overall combined length of the assembled shaft and lag screw.

  • Patent number: 5072576
Abstract: A bundler for newspapers having a newspaper holding container formed by front, back and side walls and a bottom wall section at each corner. Two adjacent walls of said front, back and side walls have a cord holding compartment below the container bottom wall sections and a hollow pedestal base extends from and below said container bottom wall between each said compartment and the opposite wall of the container. The cord is placed out from each compartment into the container, across the interior of the pedestal base below the container bottom wall and up over the opposing wall with the newspapers resting on the bottom wall sections. The cords are pulled upwardly around the bundle and are cut and tied.

  • Patent number: 4808090
Abstract: A fan cover for a bypass vacuum motor unit is produced by forming outlet apertures in an intermediate flat blank and thereafter deforming the blank into a pan-shaped structure with the outlet apertures disposed on its cylindrical sidewall. The fan cover affords economies in tooling for its manufacture, uniformity in performance, and reduced noise in operation.

  • Patent number: 4792195
Abstract: An under cabinet storage system is provided with a relatively small number of modular components which may be assembled to form the support system for a large variety of heights and types of drawers. Among the supporting components is a bracket, a pair of which is mounted in opposed relationship so a to project below the cabinets, in order to support a drawer. Each bracket includes a plurality of vertically spaced slots, with a vertical array of stabilizing boxes on either side of the slot. Each drawer is supported by means of a pair of guide rails, one of which is provided on either side of the drawer for support. Each guide rail includes an upper and lower protruding tongue which is constructed to be received and retained within one of the slots in the bracket. On either side of the tongues, each guide rail is provided with a stabilizing lug which is received in one of the boxes on the bracket.

  • Patent number: 4533009
Abstract: A device is provided with weighing apparatus mounted on the movable upper frame and means operable automatically in response to raising of the upper frame beyond its normal transport position to divert the weight of the drum from the base frame onto the weighing apparatus. Said means comprises a rotary catch which is mounted on the base frame and is automatically operable to engage first beneath the upper frame and then beneath a load-sensitive bar of the weighing apparatus in response to successive upward movements of the upper frame to and beyond its transport position and load-engaging members mounted on and slidable relative to the upper frame, which members are automatically operable through the medium of cams on the base frame and a pivoted flap on the upper frame to connect the load to and disconnect it from the base frame when the upper frame reaches its transport and weighing positions respectively.

  • Patent number: 4322647
Abstract: A universal electric motor assembly having its various components mounted directly or indirectly on a stator core so that it avoids the requirement of a specialized motor housing while allowing a simplified progressive assembly. The stator core includes a harness which permits easy termination of the field winding wires and a push-in connection for both electrical brushes and motor leads. An armature, a brush holder assembly, and an armature support are simultaneously installed on the stator core to reduce and simplify assembly procedures.
