Patent number: 5311196Abstract: An optically based feed structure is used to distribute appropriately phased signals from a central signal generator to the individual elements of a phased array antenna. Any phase can be generated by adding together four phased signals (phased by 90 degree increments) if the amplitudes of the individual phased signals are appropriately controlled. By appropriately controlling the amplitude of the individual phased signals the amplitude of the resultant can also be controlled. In many cases it is desired to keep this amplitude constant. Patent number: 4792231Abstract: Satellite imaging through a turbulent atmosphere is provided at better than turbulence-limited resolution using laser speckle statistics on reflections of orthogonal spatially periodic illumination patterns. The second harmonic of a covariance function of phase provides the phase difference between nearby spatial frequencies. By summing such phase differences over many spatial frequencies a spectral phase distribution of an image can be obtained. A spectral intensity distribution can be obtained using laser speckle statistic during uniform illumination of the target. Patent number: 4764738Abstract: An agile beam control for optical phased array wherein a great multiplicity of substantially identical wave guides are employed, each of which comprises a plurality of electrodes along the length thereof, and wherein electrical voltages are applied to such electrodes in a predetermined pattern so as to effect the necessary control without creating a totally unworkable arrangement of different voltages and wiring arrangements which are intolerable. More specifically, a binary voltage distribution is provided to such electrodes, whereby alternate ones of the electrodes in a first electrode position of such wave guides are interconnected and have a given voltage applied thereto.
