Patent number: 7815170Abstract: A knife gate valve includes a reinforced valve seat which prevents displacement of the valve seat when the valve is opened and closed. The valve includes a valve body defined by a first and second body halves. The valve halves are assembled to define a flow path, a knife gate channel and a seat channel. A knife gate is disposed between the body halves and is adapted to traverse the gate channel. The knife gate is configured to be in an open position to allow process flow through the valve and a closed position to prevent process flow through the valve. A seat assembly is positioned within the channel guide and is defined by a horizontal segment, a pair of vertical segments and a lower segment. The seat assembly is compressed between the first and second valve body halves. At least one reinforcing plate is disposed within a portion of the horizontal segment, such that the horizontal segment maintains its rigidity when the knife gate traverses the seat assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2007Date of Patent: October 19, 2010Assignee: Tyco Valves & Controls LPInventors: Donald L. Publication number: 20090159827Abstract: A rotary knife gate valve includes a gate which rotates above a process flow axis within a pipeline. The valve includes a valve body defining a flow path having in inlet and an outlet and a knife gate channel. A shaft that has a longitudinal axis is positioned within an upper portion of the valve body. The gate has a first end connected to the shaft and positioned within the knife gate channel when the valve is in a closed position and rotationally displaced from the channel when the shaft rotates perpendicular to the shaft axis to open the valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2007Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: TYCO VALVES & CONTROLS LPInventors: Johnny W. Ellis, David L. Gambetta, John W. Muran

Patent number: 5979874Abstract: A knife gate valve is constructed of two body members bolted together about a resilient gate seat. The two body members and the resilient gate seat include sets of axially aligned bolt holes through which machine bolts extend. Matching flanges on the body members form a recess for receiving the resilient gate seat, thereby constraining its movement and preventing its deformation when the knife gate is closed. The matching flanges also facilitate the uniform tightening of the machine bolts during gate valve assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Technaflow, Inc.Inventors: David L. Gambetta, Darrel J. DesRochers

Patent number: 5653423Abstract: A knife gate valve comprises a body member to which two aligned conduits are attached. The body member has a U-shaped internal recess of predetermined length formed within it. A removable sealing member fits within the recess and extends along its entire length. The sealing member is comprised of rubber which has been cured about a threaded or irregularly surfaced rod that reinforces the seat, helping to keep it in the correct position and orientation in the recess. The rod protrudes from both lengthwise ends of the rubber and is operatively connected with the body of the valve. This prevents the sealing member from being dislodged by the flow of slurry through the valve or the opening action of the valve in the presence of a sticky slurry.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1996Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Assignee: Technaflow, Inc.Inventors: Calvin L. Young, David L. Gambetta, Jon A. Hansen, Nolan D. King, Darrel J. DesRochers, Richard A. Sutherland

Patent number: 5560587Abstract: A gate valve sealing unit includes first and second annular seal members that are attached to a main body structure within a passageway that receives and is selectively occluded by a gate. The first and second seal members include first and second rigid mounting hubs to which are mounted first and second annular elastomer sleeves, respectively. Each elastomer sleeve has a continuous lip section and plural axially spaced cavities, the lip sections of the first and second sleeves engaging peripheral margins on opposite sides of the gate when it occludes the passageway and engaging each other otherwise. The first and second mounting hubs include axially outward radial flanges that extend from the respective first and second sides of the main body structure.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: Technaflow, Inc.Inventors: Andrew J. McCutcheon, Jeffrey M. Bowman, David L. Gambetta

Patent number: 4623122Abstract: A valve assembly including an annular ring having an inwardly directed projection and a seal having a groove into which the projection is fitted. The seal has a sealing surface which engages a valve member. The seal has two ribs which project from the sealing surface and a protrusion extending into the groove, the ribs and the protrusion engaging respectively the valve member and the annular ring for providing a bubble-tight seal.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1985Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: David L.
