  • Patent number: 10859540
Abstract: A septum containing a duckbill valve assembly includes a plurality of elastomeric ribs extending from the body of the septum to the duckbill valve assembly. When inserted into an injection port cavity, force generated by an interference fit between the body of the septum and the cavity is transmitted by the ribs to the duckbill valve assembly. The ribs are configured to reversibly collapse at a hinge point when a needle is inserted through the duckbill valve assembly and are spaced to assist in centering the needle in the duckbill valve assembly. The ribs reduce wear on the duckbill valve assembly by reducing the concentration of compressive forces at higher inlet pressures while maintaining sufficient compressive force to close the duckbill valve assembly at lower inlet pressures.

  • Patent number: 8025859
Abstract: A process for the extraction of a precious metal, such as gold or silver, from a sulphide ore or concentrate or other source material comprises subjecting the source material to pressure oxidation to produce a pressure oxidation slurry. The pressure oxidation slurry is flashed down to a lower temperature and pressure and is then subjected to a liquid/solid separation to obtain a pressure oxidation solution and a solid residue containing the precious metal. The solid residue is then subjected to cyanidation to extract the precious metal. The formation of thiocyanide during cyanidation is minimized or counteracted by effecting the cyanidation at an elevated oxygen pressure and a reduced retention time, such as 30 to 90 minutes. A method for the reduction of copper cyanide formation during cyanidation leaching is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7138084
Abstract: A filter for molten metal is an open-pored porous material comprising particles of refractory material embedded in and bonded together by a carbon matrix bonding material. The filter can be made by forming a porous article from refractory particles, e.g. refractory oxide, carbide or graphite, and a carbon-rich binder, e.g. tar, pitch or an organic (preferably aromatic) polymer that degrades to form carbon on pyrolysis, and then firing the porous article to generate the carbon matrix in which the refractory particles are embedded. The porous article is preferably made by coating a reticulated polyurethane foam with binder and refractory particles, and firing at preferably no higher than 800° C.
