  • Patent number: 5770296
Abstract: An adhesive device, featuring a target element, absorptive of electromagnetic waves, contiguous with a heat-activatable adhesive material, shaped into an article having a mathematically smooth perimeter, will facilitate a quick, neat, easy and secure assembly of associated component pieces or manufactured articles. Exposing the device to electromagnetic waves will produce heat energy which will activate the adhesive material and result in the bonding of the associated component pieces. This adhesive device is particularly beneficial when used within or between pieces to be assembled that are substantially transparent to electromagnetic waves.

  • Patent number: 5753883
Abstract: A new adjustable collet for stud welding employs a plurality of electrically energizable jaws coordinated to firmly grasp studs of various shapes, sizes and orientations while welding them to a work surface. This adjustable collet will also ensure better contact with the stud and thus reduce the likelihood of arcing and faulty welds. Premature collet wear will also be averted by reducing the amount of sliding contact between the collet and the stud.

  • Patent number: 5749509
Abstract: A tool for driving a nail or other fastener is actuated by a caseless propellant charge formed of combustible material that is transported into a combustion chamber on a strip. The propellant charge is ignited by striking a sensitizer portion of the charge at an oblique angle. The ignition member intermixes the sensitizer material with an oxidizer layer of the surface of the propellant charge, resulting in combustion of the charge. When ignited, the propellant charge is compressingly interposed between an orifice plate and a movable portion of the combustion chamber. The orifice plate includes a pedestal with an annular compression surface that separates the surface of the ignition area from the remaining surfaces of the charge, insuring that ignition gases are forced through the charge. An annular C-shaped ring is interposed between the orifice plate and the movable portion of the combustion chamber.
