  • Publication number: 20080209551
Abstract: Embodiments are described for removing malicious code from a file in a first file format by converting the file into a converted file of a second file format. In embodiments, converting the file eliminates malicious code embedded within the file from being stored in the converted file. The conversion is performed within a restricted computer process that has restricted privileges limiting its access to an operating system and an underlying computer system. As a result, even if malicious code embedded within the file executes while the file is being converted into the converted file, the damage to a computer system is mitigated because of the limited privileges provided to the restricted process.

  • Publication number: 20070043974
Abstract: Techniques are provided for performing memory diagnostics. A portion of physical memory is locked using functionality included in an operating system. At least one memory diagnostic test is executed on the portion producing a result. It is determined, in accordance with the result, whether a memory problem exists for the portion of physical memory.

  • Publication number: 20060069805
Abstract: The role of a system in a network may be categorized as a networking system, a security system, a systems management system, a mail system, a database system, a web system, a file/print system, a communication and collaboration system, and/or any other system in the network. The role of a target system may be determined by sending test probes to one or more systems in a target network. The test probes may be data packets crafted to produce a particular response from a target system. The received responses may be compared to signature responses of a basis system with known operating system, services, and/or roles. By matching the received responses with signature responses, a role resolver may associate a role with the target system.

  • Publication number: 20050279359
Abstract: An oral suction catheter assembly for removing fluids and secretions from the lungs and trachea of a medical patient having no artificial airways, the oral suction catheter assembly including a hand-held hollow wand having a hollow generally cylindrical opening axially centered therein, the wand having a distal end for insertion into the mouth of a patient, an elongated suction catheter tube received in the hollow wand for extension into the trachea of the patient, and a valve connected to the end of the suction catheter tube for connection to a vacuum source for selectively supplying a vacuum to the suction tube.

  • Publication number: 20050005165
Abstract: A method for a firewall-aware application to communicate its expectations to a firewall without requiring the firewall to change its policy or compromise network security. An application API is provided for applications to inform a firewall or firewalls of the application's needs, and a firewall API is provided that informs the firewall or firewalls of the application's needs. An interception module watches for connect and listen attempts by applications and services to the network stack on the local computer. The interception module traps these attempts and determines what user is making the attempt, what application or service is making the attempt, and conducts a firewall policy look-up to determine whether the user and/or application or service are allowed to connect to the network. If so, the interception module may instruct the host and/or edge firewall to configure itself for the connection being requested.

  • Patent number: 6265468
Abstract: The present invention is directed to two- and three- component aqueous polyurethane composition which are cured at ambient temperature and have excellent chemical resistance without reduction in abrasion resistance and flexibility. The two component system comprises a first component of a hydroxy functional aqueous polyurethane dispersion and phenoxy resin blended together, and a second component of polyisocyanate. The three component system comprises a first component of a hydroxy functional aqueous polyurethane dispersion, a second component of epoxy resin; and a third component of polyisocyanate. Generally, the mass of the epoxy or phenoxy resins is 1 to 50% of mass of the polyurethane solids in the dispersion and the mass of the polyisocyanate is 50 to 200% of the mass of the polyurethane solids in the dispersion. The two or three component polyurethane composition has a mass fraction of solids of preferably 10-50%.

  • Patent number: 6157729
Abstract: A speaker mounting assembly for use on a boat. The assembly consists of a rigid elongated speaker support bracket on which two interfacing boat engaging members are fixed opposite the speaker. The boat engaging members have a hole through their mid portion and are pivotally joined together each of their sides with a component of the boat, such as a rail, compressed between them. At their other side these two boat engaging members are fixed to the boat by a through bolt extending through both members. At the upper portion of one of the engaging members is a lever arm having an internally threaded hole that fits on the top of the through bolt and, when compressed, is used to retain the members to the boat. Alternately, the lever arm may be used to adjust the compressive force of the boat engaging members with respect to the engaged boat component on which mounted.
