Patent number: 10487838Abstract: An annular balance adjusting device (50) is included in the clamping region of a turbocharger (1) rotating assembly. The annular balance adjusting device (50) includes an annular member (51, 61) having a non-uniform weight distribution. By setting the rotational orientation of the annular member (51, 61) relative to the rotating assembly ((not labeled)), imbalance of the rotating assembly can be addressed. The annular balance adjusting device (50) can be used to correct the imbalance of the rotating assembly, thereby reducing turbocharger (1) vibration and increasing turbocharger (1) durability.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2015Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: BorgWarner, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Pruitt, Evan Lucas, David Ledger, Matt Tondra

Patent number: 7292932Abstract: A system and method for controlling the speed of an engine includes determining a desired engine power output and engine speed, and determining whether the desired engine speed is within one of a number of predetermined engine speed ranges. It is then determined whether a noise-vibration level for the vehicle is within a target range when it is determined that the desired engine speed is within one of the predetermined engine speed ranges. The noise-vibration level is a function of at least one of a corresponding vibration level for one or more vehicle mechanical systems, and a noise level for the passenger compartment for the engine operating at the desired engine speed. The engine is then controlled at the desired engine speed when the determined noise-vibration level is within a target range, and it is determined that the desired engine speed is within one of the predetermined engine speed ranges.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2006Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: David Ledger, George Dolan, Jason Konopa, Jeffrey Boismier, Floyd Cadwell
