  • Patent number: 6482350
Abstract: A blow pin assembly for a mold of a rotary blow molding machine includes a base, a carriage supported by and movable relative to the base, a sub-base supported by and movable relative to the carriage, and a blow pin mounted to the sub-base for movement between a home position and a mold-engaging position. The blow pin is constructed with a low profile to clear an extruder head above the mold. This permits a method of forming a blow molded product to be used wherein the blow pin is inserted into the mold (and a parison in the mold), while the mold is at the extrusion workstation of the blow molding machine or very nearly so.

  • Patent number: 6314836
Abstract: The present invention is addressed to improving a blank for a wire drawing die formed from an annular cemented metal carbide support component having a lengthwise extent from an entrance end to an exit end and extending radially about a central longitudinal axis to define a cylindrical internal bore through the lengthwise extent, and a cylindrical sintered polycrystalline compact component received within the bore of the support component and bonded thereto at an interface surface extending a radial distance from and along the longitudinal axis from a wire drawing entrance end to a wire drawing exit end. The compact component is adapted to receive an aperture extending through its lengthwise extent about the central longitudinal axis and is configured with an entrance zone at the die entrance end which tapers inwardly therefrom to a reduction zone whereat a wire to be drawn through the aperture makes initial contact with the compact component, and thence to a bearing zone and an exit zone.

  • Patent number: 6196910
Abstract: The present invention discloses a new surface geometry of a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutter whereby large chips are prevented from forming in front of the cutter. The surface geometry includes recess(es) and/or raised region(s) that can act as chip breakers and also increase turbulence in the flow across the face of the cutter and thus increase the Heat transfer coefficient and reduce drag. PCD surface's geometric configuration is formed in the high temperature/high heat (HT/HP) process and is therefore integral with the cutter. This invention thus provides a polycrystalline cutter with improved cutting capability by preventing chip build up and enhanced heat transfer resulting in a cooler cutting edge temperature.

  • Patent number: 6198779
Abstract: A radio receiver circuit (200) is used for receiving a multi-level signal (201) that includes a plurality of symbols, wherein each level is representative of a symbol of data. Baseband samples are generated for each symbol, whereby each baseband sample has a phase and a signal level. The radio receiver circuit (200) measures the received signal environment. A digital circuit (212) selects a scan duration from a scan duration table (251) based on the measured signal environment and a combination of signal types used for classification of the received signal. The digital circuit tallies, by category, occurrences of the baseband samples, whereby each category is representative of one of a plurality of phases, and one of a plurality of signal level ranges.

  • Patent number: 6193925
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for inserting labels into blow-molded hollow articles. The blow-molding apparatus includes a carrousel mounted to rotate within a support frame. The carrousel carries four multi-cavity molds around a circular mold path. Two blow-molding workstations are disposed next to the mold path in fixed positions relative to the frame. The carrousel is indexed to cause each mold to pause by each workstation, and at a label-insertion station, one time during each carrousel revolution. An in-mold labeler inserts a label into each mold at the label-insertion station. The in-mold labeler includes four picker heads supported on a carriage that shuttles the heads between label dispensing magazines and the mold station path. Each magazine includes a label stack receptacle in which labels rest edgewise, by gravitational force on a pair of label guide surfaces.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for blow-molding hollow articles. The blow-molding apparatus includes a carrousel mounted to rotate within a support frame. The carrousel carries four molds around a circular mold path. Two blow-molding work stations are disposed next to the mold path in fixed positions relative to the frame. The carrousel is indexed to cause each mold to pause by each work station one time during each carrousel revolution. The molds pause by each work station to allow blow-molding operations to be performed in conjunction with each mold at each work station. At one blow-molding work station, located at the 12:00 position of the mold path, an extruder injects parison into each mold. At the other work station, located in the 9:00 position of the mold path, a take-out mechanism extracts blow molded articles from the molds and places them upright on a conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6042463
Abstract: A supported polycrystalline compact (PC) cutter made under high temperature, high pressure (HT/HP) processing conditions having non-planar interfaces between the PC layer and a cemented carbide support layer. The carbide PC interface geometry is such that one or more protrusions extend from the support layer into the PC layer. The protrusions have a low cobalt metal binder content of about 3-9% by weight. The low cobalt metal binder content in the protrusions results in enhanced performance and improved resistance to cracking during installation and/or to brazing breakage.

  • Patent number: 6009963
Abstract: A cutter for use on a rotary-type drag bit for earth boring is provided comprising a substantially rectangular diamond table attached to and supported by a substrate. A plurality of rod-like diamond pilings made of polycrystalline diamond is carried in the substrate, extending from the cutting face of the diamond table, through the diamond table, and into the substrate material. The diamond pilings are generally arranged in a mutually parallel configuration substantially transverse to the plane of the diamond table, and the forward ends of each diamond piling may coextensively terminate at the cutting face of the diamond table, may terminate within the diamond table, or may merely abut the rear of the diamond table. Further, the diamond table may be of smaller size than the transverse cross-section of the substrate, and at least a portion of the periphery of the substrate may then be forwardly and inwardly tapered to provide structural support to the diamond table.
