  • Patent number: 4465854
Abstract: Process for the preparation of ethyl acetate by hydrogenating acetic anhydride in the presence of a Raney nickel catalyst. The process can also be utilized to hydrogenate mixtures of acetic anhydride and ethylidene diacetate to produce ethyl acetate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 1981
Date of Patent: August 14, 1984
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: David M. Pond, Thomas J. Glenn
  • Patent number: 4172081
Abstract: The invention relates to certain bichromophoric compounds which have been found to be effective ultraviolet stabilizers. The invention also relates to ultraviolet degradable organic compositions containing a stabilizing amount of a certain bichromophoric compound to prevent such degradation. These stabilizers are effective in the presence of other additives commonly employed in polymeric compositions including, for example, pigments, colorants, fillers, reinforcing agents and the like. These ultraviolet stabilizers may also be incorporated into the organic compositions such as polymers by adding to the polymer melt or dissolved in the polymer dope, coated on the exterior of the shaped or molded article, film or extruded fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 12, 1977
Date of Patent: October 23, 1979
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
    Inventor: David M. Pond
  • Patent number: 4169837
Abstract: The invention relates to bichromophoric heterocyclic ester compounds which have been found to be effective ultraviolet stabilizers. The invention also relates to ultraviolet degradable organic compositions containing a stabilizing amount of these bichromophoric heterocyclic ester compositions to prevent such degradation. These stabilizers are effective in the presence of other additives commonly employed in polymeric compositions including, for example, pigments, colorants, fillers, reinforcing agents and the like. These ultraviolet stabilizers may also be incorporated into the organic compositions in the polymer melt or dissolved in the polymer dope, coated on the exterior of the molded article, film or extruded fiber.

    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: David M. Pond, William C. Dickason, Edward U. Elam
  • Patent number: 4128559
Abstract: This invention relates to benzotriazole ortho-ester compounds of the type (A).sub.x --C wherein A is a group having the structure ##STR1## and C is a group having the structure ##STR2## X IS AN INTEGER OF 1 TO 6 AND I is the same as R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 and is present on all positions of the benzenoid ring except the carbon atom attached to the heterocyclic ring and the carbon atom attached to the carbonyl group connecting the heterocyclic aromatic A group with the aromatic C group.R.sub.1, r.sub.2, r.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be hydrogen, halogen or any of various alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or other such substituents. In addition, pairs of R's, combined with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, may be joined alkylene groups completing a carbocyclic ring. These compounds are effective ultraviolet stabilizers and may be used in the presence of other additives commonly used in polymeric compositions including, for example, pigments, colorants, fillers, reenforcing agents and the like.
