Abstract: A generalized software process simulation model is utilized to simulate software engineering processes and support project management and control. The simulation model takes advantage of generic software modeling blocks which represent differing stages or activities in a software development process and are represented in modeling environment. The generic software modeling blocks are also used to represent sub-processes and activities within higher-level processes. The blocks also provide dialog boxes which allow entering and adjustment of data and equations. Through manipulation of blocks and comparisons of simulations, a project manager can simulate and observe the outcome of different process decisions. Additional simulation capabilities are possible, as software engineering is one example of the technology.

Abstract: A global software development model instrument is described. The instrument utilizes a global system dynamics model, as well as one or more site-specific discrete event simulation and system dynamics models to model interactions within and between software development sites. Parameters, equations, and interactions between the model components are editable to allow for the simulation and comparison of various software development options and to provide for global software development research. Additional product development situations can be modeled as well, including hardware and systems engineering.

Abstract: A bi-directional software development process simulation model is described. The model simulates the stages of a software development process, using equations relating to defect injection and detection and parameters describing detection and injection rates. With forward development process simulation, predictions can be made for process outcomes. By simulating in the reverse direction, defect detection requirements can be found for each stage of the model to achieve a desired performance result. Outcome-based control levels are utilized with the model to better detect whether a process is out of control. By going between the forward and reverse simulation directions, control of the process can be fine-tuned as defect detection data is obtained during process execution. In addition to quality as measured by defects, other metrics can be simulated, including cost, time, and features; similarly other product development scenarios, such as hardware or systems engineering can also be modeled and simulated.

Abstract: The disclosed travel massage brush is an ultra-compact vibrating hair brush that comfortably fits an average woman's or man's hand in the hair brushing or massage modes. It is light in weight and portable permitting grooming and/or soothing scalp or body massage anywhere, at any time. Pivotally connected vibratory brush-head and handle subassemblies provide maximum space saving portability, making the travel massage brush ideal for taking along to the gym, to work, or while traveling. The vibratory brush-head subassembly includes a bristle carrier that is removably attached to a base member thereof and preferably slides on and off the base member to allow for convenient bristle cleaning and to access the battery compartment. Gentle ball-tipped bristles stimulate circulation to hair follicles.

Abstract: A multi-mode exercise machine has a re-configurable arm member operable in alternate upstanding and recumbent configurations that allows the machine to be used, when the re-configurable arm member is configured in its upright configuration, to provide a first mode of exercise where the user is supported in such an upright position as to be able to exercise at least his/her lower body, and that allows the machine to be used, when the re-configurable arm member is configured in its recumbent configuration, to provide a second mode of exercise, where the user is supported in such a recumbent position as to allow the user to exercise at least his/her upper body. In the presently preferred embodiment, the re-configurable arm member includes a pivotally mounted and self-locking arm member movable between a first, upright position and a second, recumbent position. In the presently preferred embodiment, the first and second exercise modes include cycling and rowing exercise modes.

Abstract: A convertible baby walker and baby gym comprising a pair of spaced-apart side frames supported on wheels. A cross-piece extends between the side frames and is extensible to adjust the spacing between the frames. The cross-piece is elevated above the side frames and serves to suspend playthings when the apparatus is in the baby gym configuration. The cross-piece is repositioned to extend adjacent a forward pair of wheels associated with the side frames to brace the side frames when the apparatus is in the baby walker configuration.

Abstract: A can opener includes a pair of pivoted handle members (101), (102), associated with a drive wheel (108) and a cutting wheel (111), which are brought into a position to nip the rim of a can when the handles are closed. The nip on the can is not lost when the handle members are partially opened to an intermediate position. As shown the cutting wheel is pivotally mounted on a rotatable carrier (112) in the handle (101) and has a projection (104) entering a recess (105) in the handle (102). The recess allows the handle (102) to move between the closed and intermediate positions without disturbing the carrier (112). Closing the handle (102) drives a drive shaft (110) carrying the wheel (108) through gearing (153), (154), (155). A one-way clutch spring (116) slips when the handles open so that repeated opening and closing of the handles cuts round the can.
