Abstract: An absorbent article having a liquid permeable topsheet, a liquid impermeable backsheet and a liquid absorbent pad for absorbing a liquid exuded from the human body positioned there between, and having an elasticized side flap and an extended wing along each side edge of the absorbent article. The side flap has a loop member formed from either the topsheet or the backsheet, or an optional secondary non-woven sheet, which extends from and loops back toward said side edge of said absorbent pad, and an inserted member formed from a layer which extends from said side edge of said absorbent pad. An elastic material is affixed along a portion of the length of the inserted member, and a seal affixes the inserted member inside the loop member at its base end. The wing can be a separate material or can be formed from one of the layer materials used to form the elasticized flap. The absorbent sanitary article provides improved fit and leakage protection with better comfort.

Abstract: The present invention provides a disposable training pant having an improved elasticized side panel which gives improved fit and comfort. The disposable diaper has an absorbent core chassis (30) and a pair of elasticized side panels (50) connected to the longitudinal sides of the chassis, where each side panel is formed of two elasticized laminate members (10), joined by a side seam along a non-elasticized outboard edge (52) of each member.

Abstract: Absorbent articles having side panels that provide inflected barrier cuffs which promote better containment and fit. The absorbent article has a front waist region, a rear waist region, a crotch region and a pair of longitudinal edges. The absorbent article further comprises a chassis including a pair of longitudinally extending side panels, each of the side panels having a front ear flap section; a barrier cuff section having a first end edge located longitudinally inboard of the front ear flap section; a second end edge located in the rear waist region; a proximal edge and a distal edge; spacing means joined with each barrier cuff section; and closing means for securing at least a portion of the barrier cuff section juxtaposed the first end edge to the absorbent article inboard of the proximal edge. The distal edges are unsecured to any underlying structure of the absorbent article in the front and rear waist regions such that the distal edges form the longitudinal edges in the front and rear waist regions.

Abstract: A process for making a wearable, absorbent article is described wherein two longitudinally extending barrier leg cuffs as attached to a chassis and the barrier leg cuffs are joined to the article so that they are directed inwardly toward a longitudinally extending centerline in the first waist region of the article and directed outwardly away from the longitudinally extending centerline in the second waist region of the article. The method describes the cuffs as being first at ached in the first waist region and then in the second waist region in one embodiment and, in another embodiment, being attached in the second waist region first and then in the first waist region of the article.

Abstract: The present invention provides a disposable absorbent article such as an incontinent pad that is both comfortable and suitable for absorbing and containing large volumes of bodily liquids without leakage. Such an absorbent article includes a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet joined to the topsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet. The absorbent core includes a material which expands when wetted. The backsheet includes at least one pleat which is tacked with a liquid soluble adhesive such that when the liquid soluble adhesive is wetted the adhesive dissolves allowing the pleat to expand as the absorbent core expands. The pleats may extend in any direction, but preferably extend either substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the article or substantially parallel to the transverse axis of the absorbent article.
