Patent number: 9696193Abstract: A system, method, and fluid analysis module are provided for the real-time analysis of multiphase fluids. The system generally comprises a sampling system for directing a fluid stream from a flow line to a fluid analysis module, a processor and communicator. The fluid analysis module comprises a sensor for measurement of at least one property of the fluid. The processor processes the measurement data from the sensor, and the communicator communicates the processed data to a central acquisition unit or computer.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2008Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Bradley Martin, Paul Guieze, David MacWilliam, Malcolm Atkinson, Bernard Theron

Patent number: 8245572Abstract: A system and method facilitates the analysis and sampling of well fluid. A sampling and data collection device is used to detect well fluid properties in situ at a flowline installation. In an exemplary embodiment, the sampling and data collection device comprises a sample collection system having a probe adapted to selectively insert into and selectively retract from the flowline to collect a fluid sample, and a sensor system to determine PVT data in situ at the location where the probe is inserted into the flowline.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2008Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Graham Birkett, David MacWilliam, Paul Ross, Mangus Wardle, Malcolm Atkinson

Publication number: 20100155054Abstract: A dump bailer is disclosed herein comprising a tool body defining a chamber for containing a material to be deposited and an outlet in the tool body through which the material can be deposited. The dump bailer also comprises a piston assembly slideably mounted in the chamber and comprising a swabbing piston, a supply of pressurized fluid, and a valve for releasing the pressurized fluid to act on the swabbing piston to drive it along the chamber to expel material contained therein through the outlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2009Publication date: June 24, 2010Inventors: Martin Innes, Jonathan Murty, David MacWilliam, Malcolm Atkinson

Publication number: 20070236215Abstract: A system and method facilitates the sampling of well fluid during a well logging operation. A sampling tool may be coupled into a logging tool string and delivered downhole into a wellbore. At a desired location within the wellbore, the sampling tool may be triggered to intake a well fluid sample. The well fluid sample is maintained in the sampling tool in a substantially pristine condition for retrieval to a desired location for analysis.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2006Publication date: October 11, 2007Applicant: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Martin Innes, David MacWilliam, Javed Shafi, Jonathan Brown

Patent number: 4850473Abstract: A conveyor system including a buffer store for the temporary retention of articles delivered by the conveyor to the store. Articles are raised out of contact with the conveyor by two ramps one passing under a flange on each side of the article. The conveyor and ramps are downwardly inclined in this area so the article travels along the ramps under gravity until hitting a stop. The articles are in two parts, each upper part being removed from the store by a robot and normally only the lower, reusable part being returned to the conveyor. A second stop is also provided adjacent the first to permit the return of only one article base to the conveyor. Sensors are provided to detect the present of articles in the store.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1987Date of Patent: July 25, 1989Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David MacWilliams, Duncan A. Patent number: 4508204Abstract: A chute for gravity feeding a plurality of like electrical components (1) to a pick-up station of a robotic controlled automatic assembly system comprises guide rails (2,3) down which components slide with their pins (13) extending between the rails. The rails are shaped to provide a downwardly inclined straight track (5) leading into a horizontal track (6) comprising the pick-up station from which the components are taken by the robot. The transition from the inclined track (approximately 30 degrees to the horizontal) to the straight track, although smooth, is quite abrupt and ensures that the next component is successfully fed from the inclined to the horizontal section of the chute each time its predecessor is removed from the pick-up station. Since the length of the horizontal track is such that only one component can be accommodated at a time, accurate positioning of the component in the pick-up station for access by the robot is guaranteed.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David MacWilliams, Leonard J.
