  • Publication number: 20160263832
Abstract: A component of a computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system may be configured to cause a processor to generate instructions that specify how a 3D-printer additively builds an article on a build plate via depositing material from a deposition head. The generated instructions specify how a deposition head and/or a build plate of the 3D printer moves relative to each other to build an article on the build plate such that material outputted from the deposition head is deposited in successive layers in a build direction. The processor may receive a user selection of a spiral pattern selection. For at least portions of each layer of at least a portion of the article, the generated instructions specify that the deposition head continuously deposits material in a spiral pattern between radially outward and radially inward portions of the article.

  • Publication number: 20160263833
Abstract: A component of a computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system may be configured to cause a processor to generate instructions that specify how a 3D-printer additively builds an article on a build plate via depositing material from a deposition head. The 3D printer is configured to cause the deposition head to rotate in order to selectively change, an angle of a deposition axis at which the deposition head outputs material. The generated instructions specify how the deposition head is operated by the 3D printer to build the article on the build plate such that material deposited along a side wall surface of the article is provided by the deposition head having its deposition axis orientated at an angle determined based at least in part on an angular orientation of the side wall surface.

  • Publication number: 20160085882
Abstract: Methods for product data management and corresponding systems and computer-readable mediums. A method includes receiving a solid model. The method includes analyzing the solid model to determine a suggested orientation that minimizes a build height or minimizes a support volume. The method includes displaying and saving the suggested orientation.

  • Publication number: 20150360421
Abstract: Systems and methods for support structures for additive manufacturing of solid models. A method includes receiving a solid model, for a physical object to be manufactured, that includes a plurality of boundary representation surfaces. The method includes analyzing the b-rep surfaces to generate point samples for potential support locations. The method includes clustering points on the solid model, corresponding to at least some of the point samples, to create support locations. The method includes generating column supports in the solid model that connect to the original solid model at the support locations. The method includes storing the solid model, including the column supports.

  • Publication number: 20150220078
Abstract: Methods for systems and methods for integrating and linking of NC-machine operations and programming modifications to the CAM system and the CAM model, and corresponding systems and computer-readable mediums. A method includes maintaining a computer-aided-manufacturing (CAM) model in a CAM environment and a numerically-controlled (NC) program for an NC machine that corresponds to the CAM model. The method includes receiving a modification to the NC program in an NC system interface and automatically identifying a geometry of the CAM model that corresponds to the modification and linking the identified geometry to the modification. The method includes automatically modifying the CAM model according to the modification to the NC program to produce an updated CAM model and automatically generating an updated NC program according to the updated CAM model. The method includes displaying, in the NC system interface, a preview corresponding to the updated NC program.
