Patent number: 10382516Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for estimating a source resolution of image data presented to a system. According to these techniques, input image data may be converted to a domain of frequency coefficients. Each coefficient may represent content of the input image along a respective pair of frequencies extending in two dimensions. For each set of frequency coefficients having a common frequency in one of the dimensions, zero crossings of coefficient values may be detected. The zero crossings may be counted at each frequency position in the second dimension. An estimate of the input image's source resolution may be estimated from a comparison of the zero crossings. For video, this process may be performed across images of an input video sequences.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2017Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: David Makower, Paul A. Francis, Yu Chieh Lin

Patent number: 9928751Abstract: Generic media covers can be generated for digital media items submitted by publishers without a personalized media cover. A generic media cover can be generated for a media item by hashing a unique identifier of the media item that remains consistent throughout the life cycle of the media item. Bytes of the hashed value can be translated into graphic parameters which are used to generate the generic graphic. The graphic parameters can be attached to the generic graphic, thus allowing a user to regenerate the generic graphic at a desired resolution at a later point in time. Also disclosed are techniques for ensuring that generic media covers for a bundle of media items appear substantially similar.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2012Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ryan S. Lynch, Alan Christopher Cannistraro, Casey Maureen Dougherty, David Makower

Patent number: 9785424Abstract: A method and an apparatus for an application thinning mechanism are described. The thinning mechanism can select a subset of components from a universal application to assemble an application variant to be distributed and installed to a specific type of devices. The universal application may include every component, such as asset, resource or executable, built/developed for targeted device attributes to install one common application to multiple devices. For example, the thinning mechanism can use a trait vector associated with a type of devices to iterate through the components and identify assets to be included or packaged into in each target device specific application or application variant.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2015Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Donald Matthew Firlik, Patrick O. Patent number: 9619779Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed that allow automated pre-qualification and qualification of an application. An application description can be generated for an application submitted by a developer, the application description can be automatically examined to determine whether the application complies with rules or guidelines (e.g., policies) of a platform. If the application complies with the rules or guidelines, the application can be pre-qualified and submitted for approval and distribution. If the application does not comply with the rules or guidelines, the application developer can be notified of the errors in the application and the developer can be prevented from uploading the application for approval and distribution.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2011Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jason Robert Fosback, Ricardo D. Patent number: 9460530Abstract: According to some embodiments, techniques are described herein to assist a publisher to create fixed layout pages of an electronic publication. The techniques are useful for creating cookbooks, travel books, photography books, children's books, other “illustrated books”, or any other electronic publication where a fixed layout for at least some of the pages of the electronic publication is desirable. With the techniques, the publisher may embed fonts, select particular fonts and font sizes, assign visual content to fixed layout pages, and precisely position visual content at fixed positions on fixed layout pages. A scaling mechanism for an electronic reader device is also disclosed for scaling fixed layout pages to fit the size of a display screen of the reader device while maintaining the aspect ratio and assignment of visual content to fixed layout pages specified by the publisher.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2012Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: APLLE INC.Inventors: Casey M. Patent number: 9319480Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products are disclosed for managing digital media for an artist or author in an online digital media store using an automated data feed with a unique data structure or a web service having a simple and intuitive user interface. In some implementations, a webpage is provided by the web service that allows a user to request access to manage an artist or author. Upon such request, a rules-based vetting process is employed by the online digital media store for determining the eligibility of the user to manage the digital media of the artist or author.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2012Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ricardo D. Publication number: 20150347970Abstract: Systems and methods for testing application programs prior to production that enables the developer to internally test and beta test an application program. Furthermore, a potential tester may be added to a beta test list without providing information specific to a device or account information. Specifically, a tester may provide the developer with any contact information that allows the user to receive a beta test invitation. The beta test invitation may include a link that opens a beta testing application that allows the tester to enter account information that is sent to an organization that distributes the application program without sharing such information with the developer. The distributing organization then may create a provisioning profile that pairs the device with the tested application. Thus, the developer may add external testers even when the external testers do not want to share personal account information or have the ability to share device identification information with the developer.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2014Publication date: December 3, 2015Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: Latika Kirtane, Ricardo D. Cortes, Jason R. Fosback, David A. Van Tassell, David Makower, Zachary T. Friedland, Daniel H. Miao

Publication number: 20150261425Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided for the optimized configuration of media bundles to facilitate media presentations on client devices. In particular, media bundles are submitted by content providers for displaying media presentations associated with a video or audio product. The media bundles can contain instructions for presenting content, as well as digital media assets for use in media presentations. The media bundles are then optimized for the formatting and presentation of media content based on the unique display and usage characteristics of the client device, and are displayed on the client device in the optimized fashion.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2014Publication date: September 17, 2015Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: DANIEL E. Patent number: 8935217Abstract: A system and method for submission of digital assets to a digital asset submission system are disclosed. The digital asset submission system can manage submissions of digital assets to a network-based distribution system. Submission of digital assets to the digital asset submission system can be performed over a network in a controlled manner such that the digital assets can be validated prior to transmission of the digital assets to the digital asset submission system. Advantageously, digital assets to be submitted for distribution can be substantially validated before the digital assets are transmitted to the digital asset submission system.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2009Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jason Robert Suitts, David Makower, Ricardo D.
